According to Meg Cabot (The Princess Diaries’s author), Disney killed Mia’s father because they got Julie Andrews to play Queen Clarisse and Disney wanted to give her more lines

killing off the dad for julie andrews seems reasonable honestly

I always assumed it was because in the books the dad is infertile from testicular cancer, and Disney didn’t want to have to discuss testicles in a movie.

Honestly Disney was so real for that. It’s Julie Andrews.

I thought it’s because all the princesses have a dead parent or parents , Cinderella, Snow White, Ariel, etc I thought live action ones weren’t spared, but we got Julie Andrew’s and that is great

Hilarious and correct decision. No notes.

Gradmere in the books was so rude and condescending and not in a cute way. Definitely more refined with Julie Andrews.

I love the book series and the first movie. the books are SO different so you really have to separate them out

I watched the princess diaries films first and then I tried the books but I couldn’t get into them, because they were so different from the films. I love the films.

I scrolled past this too quickly and thought this was Tina Fey…

Aww, I’m glad to see Meg Cabot doing well. I was such a huge fan of her books growing up.

I loved Meg Cabot’s books. I really enjoyed the Boy series and the Heather Wells series.
And She Went All the Way (which should be part of the Boy series) would be a great movie IMHO.

It’s too bad, because he’s one of my favorites in the book. Total Eurotrash jet setter fuckboy who’s totally unafraid of Clarisse and totally supportive of Mia and Helen. He contains multitudes.

Idk what this is from but these interviewers are awful. Let the woman talk!

“Julie Andrews? Kill the dad!” lol I’m gonna start saying that with no context instead of “I’m in!”
