Millie Bobby Brown says she got food shamed on the Stranger Things set for eating something from England: “They’d be like, ‘mate, what the f*ck are you eating?’… it’s like you live in the 1800s. I would hide in a corner because they’d be like, ‘what is that?’”

I moved to England from Canada and heard so many jokes about how I was going to starve because English food was terrible. I got there and was like WTF!? Nothing in the fucking WORLD beats a well made Sunday roast. Toad in the hole? Ham egg and chips with really nice ham!? Sausage rolls from Gregg’s!? I’m OBSESSED with English food lol

Is a jacket potato like, similar to a baked potato? Why would that be weird?

    3. I’m so confused. What about eating a baked potato should be foreign to Americans on a TV set? They’re a common thing here.

Just sounds like friendly banter tbh. Us having shit food is a long running stereotype, same way we’d take the piss out of the American obesity crisis. Maybe Millie took it the wrong way but this is an absolute non-story for me.

    5. Jacket potato, beans and cheese is utterly elite. Anyone who disagreees needs to shut the fuck up.

I suspect she’s over dramatizing the situation and they basically were light heartedly joking with her her. Seen her in a few interviews where she seems to make things bigger than they really are.

    7. I frequently send photos of purposely shit looking meals to my American friends all the time and it always slaps.

Full tins of mushy peas or beans dumped on top of small portions of chips is my favourite to get them riled up.

Awww poor insufferable celebrity having to overcome adversity with her millions of dollars

    10. The mere existence of mushy peas welcomes any and all ridicule of English “cuisine.”

    11. It was probably a few different events in her day but I love the idea that THIS is where she wore that gorgeous dress to.

If youre eating a plain baked potato, thats got nothing to do with region lol. You do sound like youre from the 1800s. That said, its just a joke from me. Maybe not from them.

That sounds like regular messing around with friends. Maybe she’s just really sensitive?

Nothing makes you feel more homesick than people acting like your comfort food is weird.

I see to watch supersize vs superskinny when I was in Covid times and it had me craving their foods like crazy, beans on toast is delicioussss and garlic mayo is a perfect condiment

Mash and jellied eels(mind you this is real food they eat. I didn’t even know you could jelly an eel)

    17. Yanks when someone eats food which isn’t deep fried, covered in microplastics and high-fructose corn syrup, and isn’t seasoned with chemicals banned in the EU:

Food shamed? Hide in a corner? 1800s? So overdramatic. Just take it with a sense of humor and ask them the same thing. I get asked that at work sometimes too, and I ask my coworkers the same thing. Don’t take it so serious

Millie brings up so many cultural British things that I grew up experiencing as a first generation American with British parents. I think because you’re a white immigrant, people don’t think you’ll experience the same bigotry as other transplants but you certainly do. Very validating to here from her. I got bullied so badly I had to purposely switch to an American accent.
