I wish just one adaptation would allow Carrie to be plus sized or chubby as she is in the actual novel

    2. PresentationBest8239 on

Watching for Matthew Lillard probably, but I’m so tired of the remakes.

    3. Soft_Interaction_437 on

I’m kinda excited, Mike Flanagan tends to have really good takes on King’s stories.

    4. Just looking at these images, this seems really sanitised compared to the novel. If you told me these were stills from ginny and Georgia, I’d believe you.

    5. They continue to make her look like Sissy Spacek and nothing like Carrie the book character.

    6. Samantha Sloyan is an actress with an extensive career but all my brain can think of when I see her is

      “PERFECT PENNY KILLED MY HUSBAND!!!!”

    7. crackerfactorywheel on

These pictures feel way too sterile for a Carrie adaptation. Also I’m bummed that a Carrie adaptation yet again decided not to cast a plus size lead as Carrie. Samantha Sloyan as Margaret White will probably be good but I’m just not excited about this show.

honestly, you got Flanagan doing King material + Lillard + Sloyan?

Idc if it’s annoying to say, I wish newer carrie adaptations actually committed to making her an outcast instead of a traditionally cute girl who’s just a tiny bit awkward and gets bullied because the plot demands it

    10. Shoulda been Milly Shapiro šŸ™‚ā€ā†•ļø ( hope summer absolutely kills it though, haven’t seen her before in anything. )

I don’t think you can really do a modern version of Carrie. Bullying in schools very covert and online now. A school spreading a video of a girl in the locker room shower (even if she is wearing clothes) would cause a public outcry. Even if she is an outcast no one cares about the principal and parents certainly care about the school/their children’s reputations.

Again, Carrie should not be smaller šŸ™ƒ the whole point of the pig’s blood is that Carrie is labelled a pig cause of her size

OK, I love the book, love the OG movie and love the cast, so I’m going to watch and withhold judgement til then. edit: and I have faith in Mike Flanagan

I do wish they’d remake other things, namely great concepts that bombed because they were poorly executed. Rather than just rehashing stuff that worked perfectly well the first time round. I know that is a more surefire way to make money, but it still sucks.

    14. CheapEater101 on

I wish a movie would have an overweight Carrie like in the book. That’s one of the reasons they even used pig’s blood…

Hollywood really hates any form of fatness. The main character from Holes is also big in book…but we can’t have protagonists being fat.

    15. So tired of all the remakes, but i will say when I saw Samantha Sloyan in MM i immediately thought of Carrie’s mom. So that’s some pretty good casting at least.

    16. recklessrecentpast on

Samantha Sloyan is such perfect casting for the mom. Not only was she great in the other Mike Flanagan shows she’s been in, but don’t forget about her arc on the first season of The Pitt as the mother of the boy who overdosed >!and ended up brain dead and they had to convince her to donate his organs, her scream/wail of pure grief when they confirmed he was never going to wake up again… holy shit!<

I’ll watch it just for Matthew Lillard. Love that dude. But also Mike Flanagan! šŸ’ƒšŸ»

    18. She’s too conventionally attractive to be Carrie. Carrie isn’t supposed to look like she could change her wardrobe and seamlessly look like the hottest girl in school. Sissy was perfect casting not just because of her talent because she looked different than the other girls.

    19. this visually looks so bland… where’s the color? the contrast? the shadows?

I love Stephen King and I’m a Flanastan. He’s never had a miss for me (minus Midnight Club but even that wasn’t terrible). I think this is gonna be an interesting new take on Carrie and I’m stoked!

Love Carrie. Love Mike Flanagan. Love Matthew Lillard. So disappointed that all of these things are converging. I wish Mike Flanagan would’ve put his time and effort into something that wasn’t ANOTHER adaption that was already re-adapted within the last 15 years. It’s too much, nobody fucking asked for all these adaptations. It’s just recycled IP over and over and over and over again and we are so bored.

    22. ChartInFurch on

Modernizing the story is great imo, and I think since the 70s we’ve developed a better understanding of bullying. You don’t have to be fat or ugly, you just need a noticeable enough difference and enough visible insecurity about it.

In the book she even doubts if she’s really that fat, and she has no breakout on prom night even after one of her bullies tries to find some. Also looking at characters from the time that were called “fat”, I’ve always wondered if she was only a bit overweight and had normal teenage amounts of acne, but came to believe it was so much worse after over a decade of being told otherwise. By physical descriptions in the book, I would actually expect Margaret to be much larger.

The De Palma film is phenomenal, but drinks the story down. The 2002 NBC version is more accurate and includes the full destruction, but feels like a TV Movie in every way. The 2013 remake could have been something great, but unfortunately the studio interfered and we got a ) PG-13 movie with a few f bombs. There’s been one amazing film, and it’s the least accurate. I’m excited to see how Flanagan overcomes the above issues, especially after he balanced Dr Sleep so well as a sequel to both the book and movie.

she’s literally so pretty lmao sissy spacek was an awkward kind of pretty—and even before the prom her hair was ratty and greasy and her clothes were grey and drab

What is everyone’s obsession with Carrie, Weve had non stop adaptations and they’re all exactly the same. Why is everyone obsessed with watching a girl be abused

    25. There are soooo many complaints here from people who have clearly never seen a Mike Flanagan project 😭
