what a fascinating study in failing upward. sophie cunningham somehow turned pointing her finger being friends with caitlin clark into a level of attention most talented WNBA players spend their entire careers chasing
a masterclass in how far being the right kind of mediocre, at the right time, with the right connections, can take you

I made a comment on the WNBA sub about how she’s annoying and everyone got super triggered.

She’s white and blonde in America. MOST importantly, she doesn’t mind confrontation with black athletes. That means she deserves the entire world…even tho she is mid in every single aspect of life

Isn’t she MAGA Barbie? Who has the podcast with West?

I used to think she was interesting but then I heard she was the round one ring girl at the UFC fight last weekend with rapist Conor McGregor, so for that reason I’m out.

As a huge W fan, I loathe what Cunningham and CC are bringing to the league. White mediocrity and a racist fanbase. It is truly a shame.

If a Black player did this so many people who love this would be calling it “ghetto”

we all know these shoe companies, like all big companies, care about money. whether you like her or not, she’s extremely popular right now and has a large fanbase who will buy her merch. adidas knows that, which is why she’s getting the shoe. all the players getting shoes are the extremely popular ones with fanbases who will happily buy their merch
and i’m sorry but i really don’t get why some people are genuinely mad about the pointing thing. a big part of sports is antagonizing your opponents so they can do something stupid, and your team and benefit from it. she’s basically an enforcer for the team, so trying to goad opponents into doing dumb shit is her whole role

Yep. If a black player did this, they would be getting called ghetto and all sorts of other nasty names. But MAGA is desperate for their white saviors.

I’ve seen a few comments saying that you don’t “have to be a good player, just popular” and idk I think social media has really conflated our opinions on athletes. MJ was a really popular player who got a shoe deal, but he was popular because he was a great player and that was what shot him into cultural consciousness and popularity. Not because he had a funny personality on an app that removed his talent from the equation of popularity.
Not sure I made complete sense with this but those comments are bothering me because yeah, she’s popular, but not because she’s a great player. Maybe we should start paying attention to the athletes that are great players again so that they can be more popular than average players like this lady.

I went to Mizzou and love Women’s Basketball so naturally and regretably I’ve been following Sophie Cunningham her entire career. And I will say that while her views have been pretty well-known since she was in college, it’s pretty damning evidence of the culture of Indiana Fever (and probably the apathy of her most famous and influential teammate), that she feels she can be far more open with them now than when she was in Phoenix (or even Mizzou).

MAGA and the Rs have largely ignored actually supporting women’s sports (protect women’s sports, give me a frickin break) and all of a sudden they’re using Sophie Cunningham memes and “investigating” the treatment of Caitlin Clark. These people are so transparent.
