What the hell difference does it make to anyone else? It was obviously their choice. Why on earth would insult or demean a man to take her name instead of only her taking his! Does it demean a woman to take a man’s name? No!
It’s a tradition and only a tradition. If it’s for inheritance, the only parent you can be sure of is the mother unless you do DNA.
Why should anyone take on someone else’s name anyway, it’s just a way for men to feel possessive or in charge. In this day and age it’s unnecessary!

Hmm. In Spanish culture, combining surnames is the norm.
In Germany, either you keep your own name, take a double name, or both take either the man‘s or the woman’s name.
