Jay-Z always been an opponent to everyone but himself. I wrote a paper on him in college I called “Conflict Diamond” based on the Rocafella symbol 💎
Kaepernick was done dirty but I feel like he takes any mention of his same to get back into the spotlight. I didn’t see those lines as a diss but rather frustration with how politics never seems to move past old grievances.
Also, this article is misleading since Jay’s full quote in 2019 was “I think we’ve moved past kneeling. I think it’s time for action.”
charlamagne advocated for colin to have a second chance at rejoining the league, roc nation backed him and set up a training camp. at the last minute colin backed out. i also feel like colin comparing the nfl to slavery then begging to be let back doesn’t help either.
also the “we’re past kneeling” is taken out of context, that’s not all that was said.
If Colin filed his grievance in 2017. And Jay Z signed his deal in 2019 then how did Jays actions “sabotage” his protest?
How come every article about this fails to mention the Inspire Change social justice initiative that was also a part of the deal with Jay Z?

that line that Jay-Z said really pissed me off because why are we criticizing someone trying to change the system?? It’s because Jay-Z is a huge part of that system. It came across as punching down and in really poor taste. I know Jay-Z is so out of touch but he really likes reminding us.
I think people stopped taking Colin seriously when he kept on trying to get back into the NFL…even though they treated his whole protest like trash to the point where he couldn’t find a team and he said the draft was modern day slavery. Why would you want to work for a company like that? Saying as someone who agrees with his protest of kneeling

It would be super nice if a journalist would actually grill Jay-Z about why he thinks he’s in the right to downplay critics and activists. Mocking boycotts as useless, deciding people are past kneeling without offering any ideas on what that is, why he finds it insulting to still discuss Kaepernick, his choice to team up with republicans on school vouchers vs investment in public education, trying to bring crypto to the poor communities, and of course the attempt to gain a casino. He can’t be playing the middle the way he is (he’s not actually on the fence but you can tell he believes he is).
The way I hate celeb interviews are so fluff now that you can’t get any of these questions asked is beyond me. I won’t knock any positive contributions he has made, but it’s clear his money is affecting his ability to understand actual activists, community concerns, or community needs.
