This is such a great point, whenever i see ballet core aesthstic videos all the comments are like "uhm thats not proffesional dancers wear your a poser" and it makes me so mad, proffesional dancers dont wear what they wear for fun or bc its cute they wear it because its practical and efficient so why would someone dressing up cutely for fun wear it, ive been doing ballet for 5 years and im still in foundation because i hate conditioning and i dont want to study for ballet exams, all i want to do is twirl across the floor in a pretty pink skirt and dance on stage with a smile on my face
I loved you deconstruct of ballet pink. I’ve done both ends of ballet. I was a kid in ballet & I danced professionally in musical theatre (tap & musical theatre dance). In my late 20s I added figure skating BACK into my life cuz why not? I’ve always loved any shade of pink. I bought a barre during Covid season 1. I was working from home & I’d do baby ballet during long calls. I had to do baby ballet because now at my vast age, the body is breaking down. And in the last few years my pain mgmt doc said no more ballet-not even baby ballet cuz “you’ll pop a disc!” So I bought a “ballet core” dress from Selkie.

I studied in the UK in the ‘80s & ’90s at a school that trained us under the Royal Ballet School accreditation system – we had to take exams graded by their examiners to progress to the next level. I was just 12/13 when I had to quit due to injury and working on point with girls in their late teens and early twenties in the same classes. We all wore the ballet pink leotard and skirts. It was only our teachers who wore a darker colour.

Hi, that ballet pink is very pretty. I find your post very interesting. Back in the olden days pink was for boys and blue was for girls. This post reminds me of my socialization process class in grad school. It was a sociology class. It's fun to watch children play and discover. Take care, Josephine.
I think the pink focus is honestly just the iconography of the shoes. When we as a society think of ballet, we think of the shoes with the tights and tutu after them. Since most people never start dance at all, it's not about the beginner ballet ahd what dance they did before they stopped. It's literally just the shoes.

I always assumed people associate that pink with ballet because the majority of kids who do ballet only do it for a few years, so that's the colour they remember.

I like the idea, but I think you're reading too much into it. Fashion features ballet pink because ballet pink is what most people think of when they think of ballet- it's iconic.
