    1. Adding them to the list of safe billionaires – joining Mackenzie to make 3 so far.

Sounds good but I’m too jaded to get excited by stuff like this. This smells like PR razzle dazzle distraction.

      Don’t trust ANY billionaires.

Would be nice if this money was actually used to pay reparations for all the extensive harm done to colonized and imperialized countries by the hands of the capitalist ruling class…

(Not comprehending the down votes, would this be bad thing?)

This will be interesting to keep an eye on. In college my club benefitted from their free premium memberships for nonprofits.

    5. As a student Canva was my holy grail. Glad to see it’s run by seemingly decent people.

Fund politicians that want to make the world a better place! Use the corrupt system against those who corrupted it and then fix it

    7. Great, but i wish they just lobby to pay a fair share of taxes. I don’t like when the rich get to pick and choose what causes they want to support and still get the tax rebates after.

The goal of my local community is to have access to shelter, Healthcare,  education and decent breathing air equally for all people, not whatever cause a billionaire chooses.

Anand Giridharadas addresses it much better than I do in his books and his interviews

my goal is to remain in public service of indigent people but also one day retire. can i submit to the goals?

It would be nice if oh….i don’t know…they thought about giving at least part of the money to their employees. The people who gave you their years and labor and still can’t pay off their house while you sit on billions.

But what do I know? That might create real concrete patterns of owing the people who built your stuff which might lead to actually having too sit uncomfortably with the fact that your billions was never really deserved.

      But what do I know

    10. Hasn’t Canva moved to heavily integrate AI? Is there any way to ethically make billions on a product that is cheating artists? (There are no ethical billionaires.)

“billionaires announce nebulous plan with catchy platitudes” like they’re not going to park a shit ton of money in a charity or other weird taxless entity

      there are no good billionaires

    12. The small trans charity I admin applied for “Canva premium free for NFP” and were encouraged to sign up for the company donation platform too, and now “anonymous Canva staff members” spring hefty chunks of cash on us. Fully paid our staff holiday leave last December. So I’m fond of them! 🏳️‍⚧️

Is there a reason they need to roll out a whole PR plan and figure out the perfect way to spend it, instead of just start writing checks like confetti?! Like what are they doing to help RIGHT NOW instead of somewhere down the road? (honest question)

    14. If they wanna give a whiff of a fraction of a fraction my way so I can live for a change 👍

They should give me money for my master degree and pay off my undergrad debt 🥺✌️

Had no idea they made that much money. It’s a pretty neat website. The founders weren’t the typically business school/engineering students. They were interested in the arts and I think both were in liberal arts degrees.

      They’re not perfect buts it’s a pretty cool idea/website.
