Anne Hathaway’s piece of advice: ‘Travel and tell no one, find a partner and tell no one, live happily and tell no one. People love to ruin beautiful things’

its so wild to me that we live in a time that people choosing to keep their personal life private is seen as sus and weird and that they’re “hiding” something/someone. as opposed to just living quietly and happily and minding their own. A colleague tried to tell me the other day that if you have an issue with someone airing *your* dirty laundry online, you’re an abuser or a narcissist because its weird to be upset by that. the need to share and overshare and constantly pump personal info into the void is weird to me.
Anne’s gone through the absolute “ripped apart” stage, she couldn’t breathe without a tabloid bitching about it. nothing she could do was right. good for her for keeping the people and things she loves close to her heart and out of public consumption.

I agree lol I have an ex bf that I basically told no one about, never posted him or anything and we broke up and it’s like he never existed, which is great cuz he sucked 😅

I have to tell people where I’m going though because I get l*ost (why is this word triggering automod) and I don’t want to die.
But I agree, people post their lives too online. It’s one thing to share with far away/secluded relatives and friends, and another to share with the entire world.

I’m pretty sure this is a famous quote from someone else.
But she’s kind of right. I’ve noticed this myself in my own life. I happily tell people what’s going on with me and then they come at me in a hateful way at some point. I’ve noticed people will be awful to me the happier I am, unless it’s total strangers. But “friends”? They often hate it when I’m happy.

this isn’t her quote lmao, some bot probably just matched it to a picture of her at some point
I hate how right she is. That’s so sad. But it’s true. I was just talking about this to a friend of mine today. I said people don’t like things anymore. People like to complain/hate things.

The day I finally deleted IG was the best day. No regrets. Reddit doesn’t give me that anxious feeling so I’m still here. But I’m also not posting photos of myself or trying to promote anything.

Being a millennial that is not engaging with their social media (besides Reddit which is semi anon) I feel this. I am finding some great beauty in the privacy of my favorite memories. They are more.

I didn’t figure this out until way later in life. There’s just no upside to sharing with haters.
