It does feel obvious looking back now at the timing of MeToo and the rise of the “manosphere” online. It was a direct reaction to metoo.
Chuds just cannot stand the idea of a woman having justice or any right for that matter.
Why? It’s because people hate women.

If it comes from the Democratic party and liberals, it’s just controlled opposition that’s why. For every uprising or movement, you gotta have demands and later changes. If no changes happen? You did nothing at all and in this case it even got way worse with a fascist like Trump in power.
I strongly believe that harvey weinstein turned out to be such a monster that everything else looked minor in comparison. So once harvey was dealt with nothing else changed.
Jeffrey Epstein and his friends didn’t like / want the MeToo movement because it infringed on their “right” to exploit women without consequences. The MeToo movement was silenced. Now they’re trying to silence the Epstein Files.
I blame Johnny Depp and his publicists. The MeToo movement ended with what he did to Amber Heard, because who would go public if it meant going through that?
I think one reason it failed is because some of the loudest voices behind it are really awful people. People supporting MeToo while signing petitions for Roman Polanski, people supporting MeToo while working with Woody Allen, the hate campaign against Amber Heard, Asia Argento being a predator, Rose McGowan and all her drama, etc.
The main reason is misogyny and Trump is the answer to MeToo and any amount of progress that we made in the last 100 years.
it doesn’t have to feel like it’s never going to change. lift as you rise. make an effort to bring others along with you. yes, camaraderie with your peers is important but the war is won one battle at a time.
People in power never just willingly hand it over to those they wield it against. What they will sometimes do is try to appease people just enough that they will feel that changes are coming and then count on those same people to eventually move on to the next cause.
Yep. They (and I’m talking the people in power) just make us fight amongst ourselves so we don’t fight them.
Muskrat specifically purchased Twitter to quell all momentum of uprisings & attention to these movements.
Twitter was the main source of exposure to the plight of the people against the state and status quo. That illegal alien made sure to dim it once he got his apartheid hands on it.
In the UK, I’m not sure how much of an impact MeToo ever had, both inside and outside the industry.
I don’t think the sisterhood thing came from that (and honestly I don’t really believe it’s as strong as she is proclaiming it is here).
This is a very US-centric sub so I get why everyone immediately mentions Trump, Weinstein, Depp etc. but in the UK the first thing I think of is Sarah Everard.
There were sadly many, many women before her, but I think her murder, along with Sabina Nessa’s, brought out so much shared anger and grief from victims of male violence, abuse, and entitlement that it felt like it could crumble the pillars of institutional patriarchy.
But it didn’t.
Even in the days after we found out what he did to Sarah, the police, the very institution that had protected him and enabled him, tried to silence women’s grief and anger.
In the years since, many more people have died by the hands of men. In the UK, a woman is killed by a man, on average, every three days.
And the govt has done nothing.
Nothing ever changed. If anything, it’s got worse.
A lot of the social progress we made very very slowly from 1965 to 2020 has reversed quickly. It wasn’t that long ago that LGBTQ issues had broad mainstream support. It wasn’t that long ago that mainstream America was accepting of immigrants. Hell, it wasn’t that long ago conversations about institutionalized racism moved from academic circles to the rest of society. But holy shit did the regressive wing fight back, with the support of powerful billionaires. And now any of these conversations are painted as radical left wing.

That’s true everywhere. The pendulum swung hard back the other way, unfortunately.
The pendulum swings both ways, we just happen to be on the far end of the opposite side right now. I trust it will swing back and things will stabilize again for sane people. But the inevitable swing the other way will happen again.. perhaps once the boomers are gone and out of politics and capitalism finally dries up, the swinging will level out and stop entirely.
You know what? Intimacy coordinators. I’d say that entire industry was an AMAZING thing to come out of the movement.
At least a lot of US states have written workplace anti-harrassment laws since the start of MeToo. The vibes aren’t there right now, but there is more legal protection
It really is fucking crazy. Celebrities or influencers who get in trouble just become right wing and instantly have a huge audience to support them. Same thing with random people caught being racist who get GoFundMes with hundreds of thousands. Our world is completely controlled by right wing grifters who have made billions scamming and use it to prop up their cause.
Lena Headey should have been in everything after playing Cersi Lannister.
