Really disappointing that the script was so weak. The comic it was based off of was great and so was Milly Alcock as Supergirl, but the word of mouth from people that loved the original comic and her was just negative and killed it š
What a shame, Iām not a DC girlie at all, but I really hate seeing a female led superhero movie do poorly because it means the weirdos are *never* going to shut up about it.
The annoying part about studios waiting 10 years to give women the leads in comic book movies (this, black widow, the marvels) means that people can pretend that women are the problem and not just superhero fatigue.
It is a shame, but I didn’t see it, so I can see why it didn’t interest people.
It was pretty mediocre, with some fun parts sprinkled in that I enjoyed. But obviously thatās not enough to do well in a climate where everyoneās exhausted of superhero movies, obviously itās also more difficult for female superhero movies to do well considering the target audience of these movies
I don’t care much about the movie/ DC, but I really hope this doesn’t negatively affect Milly Alcock’s career because I truly enjoy her work

These movie studios need to chill with giving every blockbuster movie $200+ budgets plus crazy marketing expenses.

Honestly love Millie but Iām so sick of superheroes. Zero interest.
I donāt really want to spend $100 to take the family to go to see a 2 hour movie in a crusty-ass movie theater with sticky floors and lice on the chairs.
Iāll watch it when itās available to stream.

I didn’t watch it because it just didn’t seem like a very good movie š sucks for the people involved, but tickets aren’t cheap!
I never go see the DC movies in theaters. I watched Superman once it was streaming and I’d probably do the same with Supergirl.
I love her but there was nothing about this film that made me want to go see it.
I watched the movie and I liked it! Itās a shame the director misunderstood the comicās ending tho smh
Itās unfortunate because the movie isnāt bad at all. I thought Millie was a great supergirl and as far as superhero films go itās better than the majority of them.
So bummed about this. I absolutely loved the supergirl TV series
I actually really enjoyed it š«Ŗ I’m sad it tanked, but I think the character has a strong enough presence to stick around the DCU. Loved Milly Alcocks adaptation of the character.
Mitch McConnel called me yesterday and said “this movie is for the girls, America just doesn’t get Kara Zor-El” and honestly it’s the only time we’ve ever agreed.
My wife and I saw it. Genuinely it isn’t as bad as the reviews are making it. It is not bad, but not amazing either. It just is. Not very memorable. Felt a lot of GotG vibes. Would have been better off having a movie about her trying to adjust on earth with Superman as a supporting character instead.
The ending of the movie is so bad. It goes against what the comic is about and what the movie was setting up to be . Also given how beautiful the comic was, the movie was visually dull. Production design seemed like Guardians of the galaxy reheated.
I hate that they didn’t even promote the movie properly.
Most of the folks I know didn’t even know a supergirl movie is realising.

That’s a shame. I actually saw this in the theater and I enjoyed it for the most part. The criticisms of the visuals/editing were valid but people were acting like this was as bad as Madame Web or Catwoman.
And people are going to take this one failure and blame it on James Gunn and demand he get fired…even though his past three DC projects were successful.
I do hope he takes some lessons from this and gets a team to look at scripts rather than him himself getting the final say. (And I hope they get some new filmmakers on Brave And The Bold- I think Chad Stahelski should direct).
I also feel like people are taking to bashing Ana Nogueria. I do think someone else should now work on Wonder Woman, but I hope she grows as an artist rather than be discouraged.
And of course Millie is not to blame for this. I want her to succeed.

As a fan of (some) superhero media, I think itās a combination of superhero fatigue and the fact that this is the wrong character to choose for the second character of a rebooted franchise. There are few characters that can lead a solo superhero movie with any certainty, and Supergirl simply isnāt one of them. Going from Superman to Supergirl – with this much investment in making her a leading character in the franchise so soon – was a mistake imo. To most people sheās just āSuperman but a girlā or essentially a sidekick (wrong or not, this is the perception of the character). Itās like doing a Robin movie – a character that works well as a supporting cast or team member but not necessarily leading a movie (Nightwing could be a different story but theyād need to establish a lot first, not having him as the focus of an early film in the franchise imo).
I donāt think a Wonder Woman movie would have had the same result (which has data to back it up, despite the awful lead actress and horrendous sequel, the first WW movie did very well in terms of getting people to the theater).
There are also a ton of female characters that they could focus on that would do well in team movies – theyāve yet to do a Titans movie, which has the animated show nostalgia to draw from – Raven and Starfire are recognizable characters to an entire generation. We donāt need to do the Marvel approach of a movie per character leading up to ensemble films.
