THEY DON’T EVEN NEED OUR WATER!! they are just using water because it’s the cheapest thing to cool their stupid data centers with instead of spending their money to do it any other way,

I’m not inherently anti AI, but seriously we shouldn’t have to risk our water and our power grid and allllllll the other environmental and ethical issues so someone can have AI generate a picture of an anime woman with five boobs.

I live in Henrico County, Virginia, county with the most data centers per capita, state with the most data center-friendly policies and maybe the greatest number of data centers overall, if not, at least per capita. Our county made news because they are asking teachers and government employees to reserve water and electricity.
(And I’m FROM Tennessee originally, so seeing Pearson speak out is rad)
The Democrats here who are in office, who bragged about sweeping the purple state and turning it blue, are INSANELY pro data centers. Only with huge amounts of pushback are they doing anything at all (“tax policies” that won’t go toward our higher electric/utilities bills) and it’s such a missed opportunity. I’ve never seen a bipartisan issue like this in my life, and I’ve lived primarily in red/purple states (albeit, very very very blue area here near Richmond) my whole life. People of every political persuasion are packing city halls and begging leaders to do something, anything, about the data centers we hate so much.
This is a huge opportunity for politicians… but I only see the more progressive Dems and/or weird fascist libertarian MAHA red types doing anything about it. (Seeing more of the latter talk about FLOCK cameras, another huge Virginia issue, as well…) and it boggles the mind. Big tech must be offering centrist Dems a lot of money!

This is a phenomenal take.
More of this.

I love Justin. I’m a former Tennessean and I still follow everything this man does. He’s someone to watch, absolutely.

And then they have the audacity to increase the residents utility bill to offset the data centers usage. Foh

Because the Tech Barons are controlling our government; Dystopian society is already here.
So, now if you’re against Data Center, you’re as bad as a domestic terrorist according to the FBI.
Federal agencies and local intelligence hubs are now tracking “anti-tech violent extremism” as an emerging domestic threat, sweeping peaceful protesters and data center critics into the same security framework used to monitor genuine terrorists.
