Having finally conquered my long-overdue dentist visit (still part of the elite no cavities club- yay!) I started thinking alot about how much of a blessing it is to have a beautiful smile you can rock naturally

Yet in Hollywood, there’s near constant pressure for celebs to nip/tuck and fill just about every corner and crevice of their body- and teeth are no exception. Making a list of celebrities who haven’t found the bravery to rock their natural pearly whites would easily be a mile long

So today, I’d like to inspire others to appreciate their natural smile too:

    1) Aimee Lou Wood: The British actress might have charmed audiences in shows like “Sex Education” and “The White Lotus,” but that doesn’t mean Ms Wood is completely immune to criticism

Growing up, Aimee was brutally bullied over her prominently gapped smile but finally felt “validated” after numerous orthodontists made videos saying nothing about her mouth needed to changed

Today, Aimee’s left her teeth completely natural and regularly receives fan mail saying her confidence has greatly helped them accept their own teeth

    2) Kirsten Dunst: Kirsten Dunst has been professionally acting since the age of 6, so it’s no mystery how her real teeth look

While KD has appeared to have gotten braces to put her “snaggle tooth” canines back in line, she’s foregone more invasive procedures

A producer of 2002’s Spider-Man even drove Ms Dunst to a cosmetic dentist’s office hoping she’d change her smile, yet Kirsten refused to get out of the car, quipping “Mmm, no thanks. My teeth are what make me special”

    3) Jake Gyllenhaal: Jake Gyllenhaal has also been in show business longterm (alongside sister Maggie) and has the exact same natural teeth color, and bite, he had way back in 1999

While Gyllenhaal once had to get bonding repairs on his smile after an injury onset of the 2005 movie Jarhead, no cosmetic changes seem to have been made

    4) Alicia Silverstone: The Clueless star has always been about keeping it au naturel- whether it’s skipping Botox, fillers, or veneers

While Alicia was heavily criticized by dental specialists for feeding her son food directly from her own mouth in 2012, her smile is definitely the real deal

    5) Mischa Barton: Poor Mischa went through the ringer when it came to what was supposed to be a routine 2009 wisdom teeth extraction surgery, and the stress of the botched procedures even led the star to be hospitalized in a psychiatric unit for a time

Despite that dark period of her life, Mischa Barton’s teeth have stayed the same shape

    6) Josh Hartnett: Josh Hartnett might have a noticeable gap between his teeth, but it certainly hasn’t stopped the 90s heartthrob from continuing to gain roles

One could even claim Hartnett’s signature smile is the secret of the sauce when it comes to his mainstream success, as his smile recently went viral in the 2024 thriller Trap

    7) Joseph Gordon Levitt: JGL’s asymmetrical, naturally colored bite naturally contrasts with Hollywood’s near-constant blindingly white veneers

Joseph even had fun by imitating the viral video “David Goes to the Dentist” on the Jimmy Kimmel show

    8) Ayo Edebiri: Bear star Ayo Edebiri has a very human smile, and it’s one of the things she’s most proud of

Speaking to Bustle in 2022 about the prospect of dental procedures, she said “I’m not allowed to. I won't allow myself to. I don't want to, I want to look like myself. I want to look like my parents, I want to look like my family. I want to look like Black people who are from Boston”

    9) Keira Knightley: The period princess is just as famous for her crooked smile as she is for her thin frame

After costarring in the 2002 sport’s comedy Bend it Like Beckham, Keira chose to forgo getting braces- explaining that her “wonky” teeth fit perfectly in an era where virtually no one had orthodontic treatments

In addition to her unique mouth, Keira even has a weird talent: she can tap out the beat to famous pop songs using nothing but her teeth

    10) Ariana Grande: Ariana Grande may have gotten plastic surgery for the first time in 2013, as well as facing backlash for cosplaying different ethnic groups throughout her music career, yet her smile’s stayed the same since her Victorious days

    11) Zendaya: Zendaya has been cyberbullied before over claims she has “piano keys” as teeth, yet she’s never seemed too upset about keeping her natural features

    12) Willem Dafoe: The veteran actor has famously called his smile “air cooled”- adding that his many gaps represented openness and possibility to his father

To celebrate his natural teeth, Dafoe even starred in a 2016 short film entitled “Mind the Gap”

To compensate on film sets, Willem frequently wears dental prosthetics to portray characters from all walks of life

Which celebrity smile do you think has the most character?

I love all of them! Not pictured here, but Kstew has one of my favorite non veneered smiles in Hollywood.

    2. ugh I love natural teeth. they all look incredible, and for each of them it’s so intrinsic to their essence.

When I see veneers I just think about the fact that their actual teeth are just sharp little tooth nubs underneath and find it so unattractive!

Wasn’t it Jake G referenced as “Toothy Tile” years ago in blind items

Good for them. I’m so over this quest for absolute perfection. It’s the little quirks that make people memorable. And I’m not just talking about teeth.

Veneers kinda freak me out, just saying. People are starting to look “uncanny valley”. I love seeing natural teeth.

I noticed in her vogue makeup tutorial that Gigi Hadid still has a very crooked bottom tooth and I love that she’s never “fixed” it

Natural teeth give a person so much personality, the alternative is clinical and uncanny looking.

Also just a reminder, caps and veneers involve literally wearing your normal tooth down and making it structurally weaker before cementing the fake one on. There is not a single dentist that will tell you to go this route unless your tooth is already broken, they sincerely discourage doing it for cosmetic reasons because your teeth are technically worse off afterward. Embrace the stains, the chips, the texture and the bone, love that you’re human. Being human just feels and looks better.

Love Kirsten Dunst’s teeth specifically. They’re a major aspect of her beauty imo

It’s so weird that NOT drilling down your teeth to little nubs and covering them with fake teeth is the odd thing to do in Hollywood 😭
