Jan de Bont, who worked on the infamous movie “Die Hard”, directed the action thriller film “Speed”, starring Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock. It was released in 1994 and was a huge commercial success bringing in $350M worldwide — well over ten times its budget, quite a feat even compared to today’s movie standards. When you watch films from this era, such as Die Hard, Terminator 2, Lethal Weapon 3, etc… the balance between practical special effects and CGI is such a treat to witness. It made these movies that much more appealing — sitting there in the theater you felt like you were a part of the action. It was a thrilling experience that I miss.
