‘The eye in the sky doesn’t lie’: North Myrtle Beach looks to add more city security cameras

An updated system in the North Strand could give police officers a bird’s eye view to crack down on crime.

crack down on crime and with it you
could soon see a lot more security
cameras up in North Myrtle Beach the
city plans to add about 100 of them
right to the downtown area and officers
tell our Ashley listrom this is all part
of a larger plan to change the game when
it comes to cracking down on crime the
the ey on the sky doesn’t lie you know
officer Patrick Wilkinson tells me when
crimes happen sometimes solving them can
be a challenge but a new system is in
the works to help officers capture their
suspects faster sometimes we don’t have
a third- party witness to you know
whatever eventa may be but the camera
allows us to that is our witness and
it’s just raw footage of exactly what
happened the extra cameras are all part
of North Myrtle Beach’s development of a
multi-million dollar real time crime
Center all with the goal of giving
officers eyes in the sky on public
streets without leaving a control room
Wilkinson tells me they traditionally
have to rely on cameras from businesses
or doorbell cameras but that’s not
always reliable well when we have access
to our own cameras in the public areas
that allows us to solve numerous of
calls for service sometimes there are
currently about 25 cameras throughout
the city but some folks say more eyes
would give them peace of mind cuz
there’s so many people that disrespect
one another and and it’s just we need a
change Wilkinson says the current camera
system is already helping them to stop
crime in real time but once they’re
installed these new cameras will help
even more like locating missing people
and getting officers out to scenes
faster allows us to to be more uh makes
us more efficient you know when you have
somebody that’s able to review the the
the big eye in the sky
