ridley scott (director of blade runner, alien, gladiator, the martian and so many more) directed a movie about the strong bond of female friendship in a man’s world. i find it so interesting how ridley scott directed this movie but didn’t continue to dabble in similar things, he just went back to doing science fiction and things of that sort. you can tell he’s not really all that picky with the genres of the movies he makes but more about the script and story. he also did a romcom in 2006😭 such an interesting filmmaker

    Spoiler for the ending below

Long ago when I was teen, one summer night I was walking through the living room to get some water and my mom was watching this movie on TV. She called me over and was like, this is it. You gotta watch this scene. This is what life is all about.

I look at the TV just as Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon clasp hands, hit the pedal to the metal, and fly off a cliff to a fiery explosive death. I had no context other than my mom’s intro. No idea what the movie was about, what happened leading up to this moment, just my mom thought it was cool or something. I was so fucking confused.

That’s it. That’s my Thelma and Louise story. To this day I’ve never watched the full film. I just know the ending and it’s eternally associated with my mom drinking her vodka at midnight being a fucking weirdo gremlin with the TV (as usual, bless her heart)
