Excerpt:

The unknown Scottish singer landed the gig after Olly Murs, 39, who had been due to open for Take That at the Hydro in Glasgow, was forced to cancel.

Mr Rooney was playing in a bar in the city when he was spotted by celebrity correspondent and TV presenter Ross King.

Such was the impression Mr Rooney, from Cambuslang, made on King that he recommended Take That enlist him as a last-minute replacement, giving the young singer 30 mins to head over to the Hydro.

Everyone breathed a sigh of relief upon learning Olly Murs wouldn’t perform. An alarm clock beeping for half an hour would have been more enjoyable.

At least Daniel Rooney got a shot at a bigger audience, so congrats.
