For anyone who doesn't know
That switch controls the power to an outlet, actually. We have one in our house. My guess as to why this decision is made sometimes is to make it easier to just shut off lamps that are plugged into the outlet. In short, they're designed for plug-in lamps. But they have a TV plugged into that instead.
I watch it so much I noticed what episode is that and that it is is switched (right to left) before the second word. 😂

I have a wife exactly like Rachel Green so in essence I play the part of Joey Tribbiani and a daughter just like Monica Geller and to top the cake a nephew that also thinks and acts like Kramer from the TV show Seinfeild. XD
We got a switch on the wall for 10 years and just learned what it does a few months ago. It turns off the power outlets in that room. Why.

the sad part is that anyone who knows even has a cursory understanding of how electricians organize circuits. the "nothing" switch is likely an extra circuit that's normally used to run a fan section of one of the light installs. One switch controls the light, one controls the fan. I allows you to turn on one without having to turn on the other. SO there is likely a light nearby that it controls that's just a light and not a fan and light. Thus the switch does nothing.
So it's a switch for a wall outlet design for a lamp that they use for a tv 😅

In my house, I have a switch that goes to a ceiling fan that was never installed.
A friend lived in a house with a socket that was fed from the next door house and they only found out when they rewired the house and cut the apparently dead wire and the power went out next-door 😂😂.
They put around six switches that did absolutely nothing in my old house.

A lot of the time it's incase you switch the light for a ceiling fan. That way you have two switches, one for just the fan and one for just the lights on the fan.
