It happened for the same reason that these sorts of things always happen, which is to say that some right-wing oligarch realized that they could make hay out of it and directed their cronies (Walsh, Shapiro, Johnson) to stir the pot. This culture-war bullshit is the most
manufactured thing on the planet, never has it ever been an authentic expression of popular outrage.
Clearly manufactured outrage that had little to do with actual offense over his (very tame) comments
All of these “Fuck your feelings” conservatives are very quick to demand that nobody say anything they find upsetting.
Still bewildered that people are moved to action by a TV show and not a genocide.
