Prince LouisPrince Louis brings his own fun, mischievous energy to royal events – and fans love him for it

Little Prince Louis once again stole the show as he stepped out with his family for Princess Kate’s Christmas carol service in Westminster Abbey last week. The sweet seven-year-old never fails to delight royal watchers – and his latest appearance was no different with fans cooing over his sweet handwritten note at the event’s ‘connection tree’.

Louis was on his very best behaviour at the annual festive gathering. But he is much-loved by the public for his cheeky antics. In 2023, he was caught on camera blowing out big sister Charlotte’s candle – and in the months that followed he has continued to charm the crowds; from impersonating brother George at the VE Day celebrations, to dancing along to the band’s music at Trooping the Colour.

Given his young age, Louis is still very much learning the ropes of attending public functions. And his parents are in no rush to push royal formalities on their little boy.

A royal source previously told OK! magazine that the Prince and Princess of Wales “are like other parents with young children”, adding, “William and Kate are easier on Louis because he’s the baby of the family.” “They don’t want to break his little spirit,” the source added. “William and Kate do their best to teach him how to behave, but understand these events are tiresome for a youngster.”

The future king and queen are very hands-on when it comes to their three young children – they have no live-in staff and frequently do the school run – and have endeavoured to give them as normal a childhood as possible. An insider previously told the Daily Mail of William and Kate’s family life: “I think it would surprise people to see how ordinary things are at home. The children help with laying the table, clearing their plates when they’ve finished eating and helping with tidying up. There’s no preferential treatment.”

When it comes to public events, it’s believed Princess Kate has a special phrase that she will use in order to keep her children’s behaviour in check. On the rare occasions she feels they aren’t behaving properly , she will use four telling words to issue a warning.

According to royal expert Tom Quinn in his book Gilded Youth, An Intimate History of Growing Up in the Royal Family : “When Prince Louis misbehaved at the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee for example, by sticking his tongue out at his mother, Kate’s reaction was praised by a team of expert commentators. She apparently used a secret code to calm the children , as she does on occasions – she simply says ‘let’s take a break’. But as a former staffer explained, the children know these few words carry far more weight than we might imagine.”

While Kate clearly prioritises good behaviour, she also wants to be able to let her children be children. “Louis is an energetic child and clearly was unable to contain his excitement at being at a public event,” a source previously told OK, referring to the Wales family’s appearance at the 2024 Trooping the Colour . “Kate doesn’t worry about their behaviour too much. She loves to see them being kids.”

In fact, William and Kate went so far as to poke fun at Louis’ cheeky antics during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in a special thank you note after the event. The little boy brought so much joy to the nation with his hilarious behaviour – something his parents were clearly aware of.

“What a fantastic weekend of celebrations,” they wrote. “Seeing people across the nation coming together with family, friends and loved ones has been extremely special. Thank you to everyone who turned out to show their gratitude to The Queen and her inspiring 70 years of leadership.

“From the crowds on the Mall to communities hosting street parties up and down the country, we hope you had a weekend to remember. We all had an incredible time, especially Louis…,” they concluded, adding a side-eye emoji.
