Timothée Chalamet Reacts to Conan O’Brien’s Dig at His Opera Comments | Oscars 2026

Oscars 2026 host Conan O’Brien took a dig at criticism surrounding Timothée Chalamet at the March 15 ceremony after the Marty Supreme star said “no one cares” about ballet and opera. “Security is extremely tight tonight,” Conan jokingly told the crowd, including Timothée and his girlfriend Kylie Jenner, gathered inside the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. “I’m told there’s concerns about attacks from both the opera and ballet communities.” But Timothée, who was nominated in the Best Actor category for his performance in the sports drama, took it all in stride. While seated in the front row, he giggled as Conan continued on with his opening monologue. Indeed, the 30-year-old ruffled some feathers—and tutus—during the Feb. 24 town hall, where he compared the relevance of modern film to long-lasting art forms.

  1. But see, even the part about jazz. Every joke has a grain of truth and we all know what he meant by that. The numbers for jazz must be very low too. I take that joke as a bit of a concession that Chalamet had a point. Think about it this way: If Conan had said "They're just mad you left out hip hop" would the joke make sense? No it wouldn't because hip hop is actually popular.

  2. I’m sure Misty is a wonderful ballet dancer, but that’s irrelevant to the point that some people don’t like ballet and it’s OK to say it out loud for heaven’s sake!! one person‘s opinion doesn’t mean the demise of ballet or opera!!

  3. I don't know why they got all hit and bothered, who cares what he says 😂 it was a dig at ballet and opera. But opera is doing just fine. It is expensive. The ppl who can't go are non rich ppl. But that is okay, we don't want to go. Same with ballet.

  4. Why is everyone so mad, he said what he said so what. None of you morons watch ballet or go to the opera. Can’t even name any people that do it, he wants to be an actor leave him alone

  5. Timmy got himself into hot water with that ballet opera diss, and now he paid the price for it. Duh, karma strikes back and there's no safe haven shielding him from the moment of retribution!

  6. If you live in a major city and can afford tickets to the opera or ballet…well cool. But I live far from a big city and couldn't afford those tickets anyway. I can, however, go to a movie theatre and see great performances for a few bucks. Ballet and Opera are not accessible to most people.

  7. Dude thinks that because music producers can cobble together a hundred takes of him singing a Wonka or Dylan song that he can sing now… Opera and Ballet are performed LIVE. Not take after take over months like movies.

  8. All he said was nobody really cares about ballets or Opera which is objectively true. I Guarantee you 99% of the world's population cannot name 5 ballerinas or opera singers. That being said he shouldn't have said it because it's important to the few that care and enjoy it. Artists should support each other not laugh at lesser known or less commercially successful art forms.

  9. All these internet Rambos are only mocking Chalamet to feel good about themselves. You have to be a certain type of person to look for so many arguments to defame someone. It was clear that Ballet & Opera would be more visited because of the Backslash. That's not a phenomenon, but a nice side effect. He still played his role in the film Marty Supreme superbly. I saw the film in the cinema and really enjoyed it. It was truly refreshing and surprising

  10. Timothy lost the opportunity here to ask for tickets for ballet/ theater and opera to be a bit more affordable.

My dream is to go to an opera session I simply can't afford to go so for theater or ballet.

  11. This is the most overblown backlash in media history. People are allowed to have an opinion you don't agree with. Even the movie started catching strays even though it was amazing. Genuinely feels like it's a bit I'm not in on, absolutely deranged behavior from people online

  12. In my city of 2,000,000 souls, Landmark Cinema shows performances of the OPERA broadcast/recorded from the Metropolitan Opera in New York. Price is I think less than a movie ticket because an adult Season Pass to view 7 performances is $24.99. People go. It's popular. Apparently the live Opera movie experience is available in 70 countries. Additionally Cineplex occasionally carry performsnces of ballet, such as the Nutcracker. So what do we have here? 400 year old art forms wisely being made available by giant screens in public theatres – something that stage actors helped pioneer with the invention of the "movies" and the "talkies". An opera singer was first recorded in 1889. The first moving picture, no sound, was produced in 1888. So much for Opera not 'keeping up'. Know your history!!!!

  13. Woke Hollywood and the woke crowd are so sensitive. Chalamet deserved the oscar. His performance in that movie was amazing. By far the best acting performance of the year. But in this day and age of woke over-sensitivity you cannot say anything anymore that might be not politically correct.
