I got my last apartment and one of my cats through his website, so he’s always been okayish with me

  2. That’s unexpected, I’m not used to billionaires actually giving away a significant portion of their money. I wish we saw more of this.

Good lad, should be a social responsibility of all humans to give back to the rest of us, but alas that memo doesnt reach all.

  4. Ok but he’s giving it to a military nonprofit, just in time for war. Hes not exactly helping the general public.

How does he profit from craigslist? Asking because it does not have ads

  6. He hasn’t done anything yet, he just signed a pledge. Why not wait to celebrate the guy until he’s actually done the thing we’re celebrating him for?

**FYI this guy has pretty infamously been donating to similar social welfare causes (like military** ***family*** **support and veterans supports, not to the military itself as other commenters are intentionally misrepresenting this purely in bad faith) to the tune of** ***hundreds*** **of millions of dollars for the last 20 years.** He appears to be a major donor directly to causes and existing organizations to actually solve issues instead of inventing new programs that don’t actually address issues with the known solutions for the sake of slapping his name on it (*cough* Gates Foundation *cough*).

He has effectively been a major philanthropist to existing organizations for protecting journalism, voter’s rights, cybersecurity, women’s rights, veteran’s welfare and other causes literally since Craig’s List became a profitable company (I’ve heard about him only because of his large donations to protecting Wikipedia and free access to information). He also appears to have utilized his resources to directly solve issues for these groups beyond monetary donation. He doesn’t appear to have spent any of his accrued wealth on controlling other companies or entire industries and government lobbying for the sake of manipulating society and ensuring his wealth remains stockpiled like many of his peers from the same era (which is why many people have never heard of him).

All billionaires are objectively bad and should not exist but what this guy is doing doesn’t appear to be bad thing and does appear to be in the spirit of reducing his own wealth while attempting to genuinely help others. **We shouldn’t fawn over it and automatically  consider him a “good egg” but we can appreciate and commend what should be a model expectation for anyone who has currently accrued gross amounts of wealth to do right now.**

Edit: [The actual Op-Ed he wrote](https://www.nytimes.com/2026/03/30/opinion/giving-pledge-philanthropy.html?unlocked_article_code=1.YFA.pzCS.dKWdviFZvZrc&smid=nytcore-ios-share) in the  New York Times (who I still hate) this week that this TikTok is 2nd hand misreporting information about is worth a read.

  8. I’ve been trying to tell my family to start posting on Craigslist again and move away from using marketplace.

  9. Aren’t all billionaires bad?

Edit: I’ll take that as a no. Make up your minds, people!
