i could be absolutely wrong, i would very much like to be corrected atp, but
were those guys moshing at a kanye west concert ?
Ok so while I agree with alot of this, we have to call out some stuff. The “chicks” used to be called the “Dixie chicks”…google why they changed it.
Also the Janet Jackson incident wasn’t her getting violated by Timberlake. It was a planned thing, and the device to reveal her bra malfunctioned. It was not like Timberlake all of a sudden just gets the urge to rip her clothes off. That would run the tour afterall
Because all of his remaining fans are ducks
The amount of people who don’t care about what he has done is staggering. Remember when being a Nazi was a death sentence? Pepperidge Farm remembers.
I made a post in another sub (can’t mention the name otherwise my comment will be deleted), about banning Kanye posts and the amount of people who did not care what he had done, played it off, or were basically like “yeah but he’s Ye”… safe to say I have left that sub.
I don’t think Kanye’s music is very moshy 😂 wtf are those guys doing
I believe his apology letter was sincere, mental illness is no joke.
But he should still have to earn back the acclaim he had, it’s appalling that he’s been able to immediately go back to where he was. And it wont do well for his own mental growth if he isnt forced to face those consequences.
At least the UK blocked him coming in, but I get the feeling he isnt going to take that gracefully.
This didn’t really explain anything, it just pointed out a double standard. Which isn’t a bad point, but it doesn’t really directly answer the question.
It also ignores the hoops Kanye did (whether genuinely or not) seemingly jump through in order to be able to book these venues (apologizing in-person to a rabbi who has some sort of significance I still don’t understand, publishing an op-ed apologizing for past mistakes, and the reports that he was directly apologizing to others behind the scenes as well). Not to mention it seems like he’s no longer refusing treatment for his bipolar disorder, which he was proudly refusing for years. I don’t think characterizing that as him “waltzing” back in accurately portrays what happened.
Factor all that in with the fact that there’s a lot of people who love his previous catalog (as you can see by the fact that Kanye has been pretty consistently the #2 most streamed rapper behind Drake for the past 1-2 years), and its pretty obvious a lot of people were looking for an excuse for it to be more publicly acceptable to go to his concert.
The US is morally bankrupt.
this also is because kanye’s fanbase is a cult.
graduation was not just the greatest album in the history of music, it was the greatest man made object that humans will ever make, and possibly even whatever we evolve into will make.
Also why Louis CK is one of the headliners of Netflix’s comedy festival this year
Kanyes always had a cult-like following even if he’s blacklisted there will always be people that worship him
MAGA show
I know videos like this are short and cannot account for all the nuances of these arguments, but I do get tired of topics being painted with such a wide brush, and not accounting for intersectional identities (Black, queer) or what happens when allies stand up for marginalized group.
I also think there’s a lot to be said about the women that don’t lose fanbases due to questionable behavior and why (a la Taylor Swift). Or the men that do lose fanbases or respect and opportunities due to controversy and why (a la Will Smith).
I think these things are a lot more nuanced than man vs woman, or even white vs Black.
Are we glossing over how this person said that JT violated Miss Jackson?
Is this a common stance/belief?
Because certain people have grasped a certain truth — if you flood the system with your heinous behaviour to the point where it is very hard to pinpoint one exact thing and if you keep carrying on as if your abysmal behaviour shouldn’t led you to stop doing what you’re doing then you can ride your wave.
And as we’ve found out all too well, if you make yourself seem like a man of conviction, people will flock to you. Society loves people who seems like they’re standing up for something, which they can give an impression of by attaching themselves to a higher cause, like freedom of speech. These people can carry on, shame is the price for it.
Trump figured out this exact trick as he keeps saying one provocative thing after another, crossing one line after another, and made it very hard to hold him to one thing because there are so many of them. As people learned during interviews or moderating, if he speaks 10 lies in one take, you cannot patiently debunk all of them.
Now contrast these two with a public figure who did get ‘cancelled’ and had to recede from public life — Neil Gaiman. His books aren’t spoken of anymore and we hardly hear from him. Either he did not how to, or chose not to, ride the wave of never reflecting and always doubling down and carrying on as if what you’ve just done doesn’t merit a pause.
Because there are a lot of Nazis out there that like him a lot.
Yeah it’s not that complex.
He’s a huge name and most people don’t live in online outrage sites 24/7 or pay attention to TMZ drivel. They don’t think about anything wrt artists other than their art and most barely pay attention to lyrical content provided that the music slaps.
Also if you think the JT and Janet thing wasn’t planned you’re an idiot. Nobody puts on giant star pasties without planning on busting out the boobs.
The demographic of people going to these shows should be a surprise to none of us.
I am not surprise, just profoundly disappointed, once again, in humanity writ-large!
I’m a huge fan of his stuff before he went crazy but I’d never go to one of his shows
My poor sister cried at Passover about Lauryn Hill supporting this POS.
Too many people are stuck on his past music. He made incredible music but that was almost 10-20 years ago. Anyone that would pay to see him live now, despite his controversies are in a cult at this point. He hasn’t made a good album since the life of Pablo. After everything he’s said and done, there is zero reason anyone should be giving him money and supporting his bullshit. Most of his fan base now are incels/Nick Fuentes followers. I’m sick of people trying to use his mental illness as an excuse, Kanye chooses not to be on meds and has a ton of resources available that the average person doesn’t have. He knows how his actions affects people around him, he just doesn’t care and the people that still support him are a huge part of the problem because as long as he’s making money, he’s going to continue being a hateful POS.
Honestly it’s sad to see, because I can’t imagine where his career would be today had he simply chose to stay on his meds. His best music was when he was on his meds.
Why bother giving him any airtime
It’s crazy how saying ‘free Palestine” can get you blackballed, but being a literal nazi won’t
Whole lot of brain dead assholes in the world.
Matt Bernstein is always on point. Highly recommend their podcast, “A Bit Fruity”!
I’m surprised there are that many idiots out there, yes.
