Prince Harry is at the center of another security controversy during his recent Australia trip. He is being criticized for requiring increased protection throughout his privately funded visit.
Victoria and New South Wales police confirmed that more security will be added to ensure Harry’s and wife Meghan Markle’s safety. There have been no specifics about additional costs or plans for payment.

The prince is reportedly “devastated” about the publicity surrounding security during the trip. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are on a four-day tour in Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra. The trip includes charity visits, speaking events and private engagements.
Australian MP David Limbrick wants the couple to fully reimburse police for added security, instead of utilizing public funding. “There is a fee structure for police support in Victoria, but if Harry and Meghan want any goodwill, they will pay for it in full,” he said.
According to Radar, sources say Harry is “frustrated, despairing and devastated” due to the added attention to this matter. Security has been an issue ever since Harry took a step back from his royal duties six years ago. “Harry feels like this is just one drama after another when it comes to security,” a source revealed. “From his perspective, he’s trying to carry out engagements and support causes, but every trip becomes overshadowed by arguments about protection and funding.”
They added, “There is a sense of Harry suffering exhaustion about the whole issue – he thought these questions had been settled, but they keep resurfacing in different countries.”
The political and public pressure grew with an online petition that opposed taxpayer-funded protection for the prince. At last view, it had 46,000+ signatures.
Since stepping down from royal duties, the couple has been at the center of security battles and funding issues. The Australia trip is reminiscent of Harry and Meghan’s 2024 visits to Columbia and Nigeria, where issues regarding funding and official support arose.
