The subtext behind the media’s obsession with the cost of Meghan’s wardrobe has always felt racist

I love that she contacts smaller brands and designers and gives them such a huge boost when she wears their stuff. It must feel magical to be one of them, everything Meg touches designer wise turns to gold. She rarely misses.

There’s a website that’s devoted to pricing royal wardrobes, there’s nothing remarkable about how much she spends. She’s also high profile enough that designers may be lending her some of these pieces.

Yep, it comes across as “how dare black women own expensive things.” They did the same when her cooking show aired and some criticized that her Le Creuset cookware set was too expensive for black women to afford or her lifestyle was unattainable as if there aren’t successful black women or hell just regular women who like cooking and can invest in quality cookware.

Meanwhile, other royals like Sophie, have significantly more expensive wardrobes, and she reportedly outspends Kate on clothing, yet you rarely hear the same level of scrutiny or outrage. There’s always the argument that the press criticises all royal women, but not with the same consistency or fixation. Outlets like the Daily Mail don’t dissect other royal wardrobes as consistently as they do Meghan’s. At some point, when one person is held to a noticeably different standard than her white counterparts, it starts to look a lot like bias.
