Despite his mistakes Dave has always come across as a decent man . He's level headed for a rockstar .
I think his wife being a forgiving person will help the family. It allow his kids to have a relationship with their step-sibling and not blame them for tearing their family apart. She has to be a strong forgiving person and him going to therapy is an appropriate condition for her staying. Stability for a family and admitting wrongdoing and making the changes needed is admirable for this whole family.
The caveat being this is good for their family to try to work through this. It is also appropriate for someone to leave a situation that they don’t feel like they can have the same resolution.
