The Gist

Celebrities like Jay-Z and Floyd Mayweather have impressive watch collections worth tens or even hundreds of millions of dollars.

Other stars wear ultra-valuable timepieces on loan from luxury brands like Audemars Piguet and Richard Mille.

Some of the most expensive celebrity watches worn by trendsetters range from $320K to a cool $5 million.

For celebrities, watches have always been more of a flex than a functional accessory. If you ask an A-lister for the time, you’d better be wearing shades, because their wrist candy is liable to blind you with the sheer amount of diamonds and precious metal gleaming around the face.

Some are deep in the watch-collecting game, like legendary boxer Floyd Mayweather. He happens to own the most expensive celebrity watch in the world: an $18 million Jacob & Co. Billionaire. Mayweather showed off the eight-figure timepiece in a June 2018 Instagram post, celebrating the latest addition to his estimated $100 million collection. Others, like Angelina Jolie, prefer (relatively) humbler pieces—the Maria star favors delicate Cartier creations that tend to come with a five-figure price tag.

While watches have only gotten flashier in recent years, the obsession with all things horological is nothing new. Even Old Hollywood icons like Paul Newman and Elizabeth Taylor had Rolexes and Patek Philippes that cost as much as, if not more than, the down payment on a house. The truth is, a great timepiece is timeless.

Ahead, find out more about some of the most expensive (and fashionable) watches ever to grace a red carpet.

Perhaps the greatest celebrity watch never photographed is Jay-Z’s rumored $5 million Hublot Big Bang. It was reportedly a birthday gift from his wife, Beyoncé, on his 43rd birthday in 2012, per Business Insider. The music mogul has a longstanding relationship with the luxury watchmaker, even producing a limited-edition ‘Shawn Carter by Hublot’ line in 2013. Speculation aside, it’s no rumor that he wore a $2.5 million Patek Philippe Grand Complications 5308G in early 2026, as Complex shared on X.

Wearing a watch named and designed after you is a flex money can’t buy. Coincidentally, however, Pharrell Williams’ namesake Richard Mille has an estimated worth between $1 and $3 million, per GQ, with only 30 of them in existence. The space-inspired accessory from 2019 features an image of an astronaut on the face, which took three specialists to create—an engraver, enamel artist, and miniaturist. Their medium? Diamonds, black sapphires, blue aventurine glass, and Grade 5 titanium, per fine jewelry publication Options. Not your average paint set.

The original Hollywood glamour girl was a lifelong lover of Bvlgari, draping herself in the Maison’s necklaces, brooches, and rings. Elizabeth Taylor’s Bvlgari emerald and gold ‘snake’ bracelet watch from the 1960s was one of the humbler pieces in her collection. Christie’s estimated the Serpenti number would sell for $12,000 at auction in 2011, but it ended up fetching almost $1 million. The charming gold bracelet coils around the wrist, with a diamond-studded snake head opening to reveal a watch.

Tennis champion and style icon Serena Williams hopped on the pop-culture watch trend in November 2021, showing off a Black Panther-themed timepiece from Audemars Piguet. Williams has been an ambassador of the luxury watchmaker since 2014, so her choice of watch at the Cloud9 Champion’s Day event wasn’t too surprising. A few months before she wore it, one of the limited-edition Marvel reimaginings of the Royal Oak sold for more than $450,000, at auction.
