In any case I agree that if someone rain checks or bails with no alternative, they aren’t reciprocating. Be it romantic interests or friends.
Granted with friends, some people are also just very busy and have a limit to their social battery. You might just not be within that limited space for them at the moment.

But I want to do things that I think is cool… thats what draws me to the thing, that I think it’s cool and I wanna try it.

I was just talking about this with my therapist. Even among my friends, nobody is capable of expressing genuine emotions like excitement or joy. I went to a Florence and the Machine concert with my friend last week, we had a lot of fun and afterwards I texted them saying “I had such a great time!!” and they texted back “it was cute.” Which is how all of my friends describe everything, and it’s starting to drive me crazy!! Nothing is fun or amazing or exciting anymore everything is just “cute.”

I do amazing cool things every day and nobody knows. I am fine with that. The trick is to not give a fuck what other people think. Just try your best to be you. Judgmental people are insecure and not worth your time and energy. Just live life the best you can that is all you can do.

Similarly, if you and a friend are trying to figure out what restaurant to eat at and you make a suggestion and the friend vetoes it then it’s now up to the friend to make a suggestion.

I think there has been a rise of people not trying things they like cause they fear it’s “cringe”. I agree with Caleb if you think it’s cool go try it out and let us know why you like it.

I’ve been saying that we’re in a nonchalance epidemic and it’s so dull. It’s probably why incessant snarking has become so rampant and replaced any actual discussion in most corners of the internet
Any time someone shows a hint of enthusiasm, joy or “cringe,” people immediately feel the need to put them down or make some unimaginative snark-filled joke about it and it’s so boring

This is the type of mentality that has ruined YouTube. People used to make videos of stuff they were passionate about. Yes they were oftentimes super dumb but at least they were creative. Now there’s millions of “beastified” YouTubers who all make the same type of videos for the sole purpose of getting clicks.

Ah yes because explaining why something is cool makes it super cool.
What??
Nah dude I’m just gonna do me and if other people are into it, great. If not, I do not care.

I’ve noticed lots of people like to play the short game which means they make decisions based off what will make them look the coolest and make them the happiest in the moment without thinking about the long term effects of their decisions. I’ve been playing the long game, I understand my life is a little lame right now and isn’t very glamorous if you’re an outsider looking in but I’m planning for what my life will look like in 3-10 years down the line.

i see this a lot here, actually. whenever a popular thing gets talked about there are lots of “oh no, the fans are being insufferable, they won’t let us talk negatively about artist/tv show/movie” and like, sure, criticism can be good, but coming into a reddit thread with fans and complaining fans are there enjoying the thing is wild

A new acquaintance of mine (now very good friend) said he thought it was cool how I just did my hobbies without fear of judgement. Like I do crochet, and sew, and bake, and make chocolate…and I’ll happily talk about those hobbies to new people without feeling embarrassed. Cause fuck that. And you make authentic real connections with people when you’re being true to yourself and not putting on a “cool” persona.

I have been seeing a lot of clips of him lately ranging from his activism, to being real like this, and just being hilarious. I think I have no choice but to stan.

We live in an age of conformity that is under the stress of economic instability so literally nothing groundbreaking seems to happen. I can travel from NY to LA to Dallas or Minneapolis and when it comes down to it, cities are turning into corporate hellscapes where all the same stuff happens. As a society – we are stuck.
