Asked about a call-up to the Avengers, Daredevil: Born Again star Charlie Cox says Marvel has been clear that the current focus for his character remains his Disney+ series.

Speaking via the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, Cox was asked yet again about the likelihood he would appear in this year’s Avengers: Doomsday, or next year’s Avengers: Secret Wars. (Cox has also been asked repeatedly if he will appear in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which he has consistently denied.)

Now, Cox has given his most concrete denial yet — and said that Marvel itself had been clear with him that its focus on Daredevil will remain the Disney+ series, which is currently shooting its third season.

“Marvel have kind of been clear with me, for now at least, that I’m focusing on the show,” Cox said. “That’s our focus. That really is the truth.

“It’s one of the things that, obviously, the fans of the MCU love it when the characters kind of clash,” he continued, “so we’ll see, but right now I’m certainly focused on our show.”

The Most Surprising Avengers and Marvel Characters Not Announced for DoomsdayDespite five hours of streamed casting announcements, there are still several characters and actors fans are surprised won’t be in Avengers: Doomsday.

Some we knew about – such as Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch and Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange – but the following omissions are notable given the cosmic cross-over nature of what’s shaping up to be an Avengers, X-Men and Fantastic Four cinematic extravaganza.

It’s a stance that perhaps makes sense, as Daredevil: Born Again is used as a launch pad for a growing street level MCU, with characters such as The Punisher, Jessica Jones, and what appears to be more of the Netflix-era Defenders all already part of the series or coming in its upcoming third season. But it’s also a future that has recently been called into question, amid a drop in viewing figures for Born Again’s latest run.

For now, or perhaps because fewer people are watching, Marvel seems keen that Daredevil remains in his own corner of the MCU, separate from the Avengers-level drama we’re set to see in Doomsday. But this also makes sense, considering the huge army of superheroes already confirmed to take the big screen.

Still, while Cox is seemingly ruling out an imminent return in Doomsday, could he somehow sneak in a cameo in Secret Wars? This would allow him to be telling the truth that Born Again is his current focus, with a small role in Secret Wars likely not due to be filmed until later this year, or next. Time will tell — though for now, it really does sound like the devil is remaining in Hell’s Kitchen.
