Jamie-Lynn Sigler is sharing an update on her friend Christina Applegate after she was hospitalized amid her battle with multiple sclerosis.
Sigler, 44, who also has the autoimmune disease, told Andy Cohen on Tuesday’s Watch What Happens Live that Applegate, 54, is “doing better.”
“She’s talked openly about having to be in and out of the hospital for different things,” Sigler said. “But she’s doing better, she’s getting stronger, she’s doing well. We love her.”
Sigler cohosts the MeSsy podcast with Applegate, on which they discuss their health journeys with the chronic illness. “It’s helpful for us,” she told Cohen of their show. “I mean, honestly, it’s just really a chance for her and I to speak openly and honestly about what we’re dealing with. And I think sometimes when you get very specific on what you’re going through, it becomes universal because we’re all just trying our best.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, MS is a disease that causes the breakdown of the protective covering of nerves. It can also lead to numbness, weakness, trouble walking, vision changes and other symptoms.
Applegate announced her multiple sclerosis diagnosis on social media in 2021 while Sigler has been battling relapsing MS for more than 20 years. She was first diagnosed at age 20 while starring on The Sopranos, but hid her struggles for 15 years due to fear of stigma. Sigler revealed her MS journey in 2016 and has been an advocate for those facing the disease ever since.
Her new book, And So It Is…: A Memoir of Acceptance and Hope, out now, touches on her experience with the illness.
“Don’t go through this alone,” the mom-of-two, who’s married to former baseball player Cutter Dykstra, said of MS on WWHL. “Just express yourself, express your feelings, your friends, your family are there to support you. They’re not going to get it perfect all the time but just don’t do it alone.

“I have no comment on whether she is in the hospital or what her medical treatments are,” Applegate’s rep told Entertainment Weekly at the time. “She’s had a long history of complicated medical conditions that she has been refreshingly open about, as evidenced in her memoir and on her podcast.”
Applegate, who shares teen daughter Sadie with husband Martyn LeNoble, later spoke out amid the reported hospitalization, thanking fans for the love and support on Instagram.
“Health issues are a constant for me, but I’m a strong chick and I’m getting stronger and better every day,” she shared on April 20. “I’m taking a moment to focus on my health, but I’ll be back with more to say soon enough.”
Applegate has been taking a break from the podcast, with Sigler stepping up as a solo host on the last few episodes.
