Wherever I’m looking for a new movie to stream on Prime Video, runtime is often a major factor in my decision-making. I have no problem with butt-numbingly long films (I loved “The Brutalist,” which is more than three hours), but sometimes you’re craving a quicker watch that you can polish off in 90 minutes or less, and fortunately, the platform’s library has plenty.
To save you the time of scrolling through the Prime Video’s vast catalog this weekend, spending more time trying to pick a movie than actually watching one, I’ve done the legwork for you, and found a trio of fantastic thriller options that all clock in at 90 minutes or less (OK, one is a hair over 90 minutes, but remove the credits, it’s done in about an hour and a half).
If your attention span has been ruined by social media and short-form video (no judgment, I swear!), here are three excellent thriller movies on Prime Video that can be enjoyed in 90 minutes or less. And each is so engaging enough that you won’t even want to reach for your phone.

‘Nobody’ (2021)

Bob Odenkirk leads this action-thriller flick that zips along at a consistently entertaining pace. Odenkirk is very capable of leading a guns-blazing action romp, and this movie packs one of my favorite brawl sequences of the 2020s. Sure, its narrative chops are basic, but that’s easy to forgive when “Nobody” is such a blast from start to finish. Plus, Christopher Lloyd as the father of Odenkirk’s Hutch Mansell is truly wonderful casting, and he gets a bigger role in the also great sequel, “Nobody 2.”
On first impressions, Hutch might seem like your regular suburban dad, but in a former life, he was a lethal assassin employed by the United States government. Eager to avoid slipping back into his violent ways, he’s a more mild-mannered character now. But when he loses his cool and fights off a group of thugs, he becomes a target of the Russian mafia, and now Hutch has to become his old self to keep his wife (Connie Nielsen) and kids safe.

‘Triangle’ (2009)

On the surface, “Triangle” is easy to dismiss. Heck, even the Prime Video tile makes it look like direct-to-DVD shlock, but trust me, this psychological horror-thriller is a hidden gem. It’s also a movie that is difficult to discuss, because one of its biggest joys is the element of surprise. No spoilers here, but let’s just say there’s a twist in this tale, so if you’ve never heard of it, I encourage you to watch it as soon as possible so its secrets can shock you.
Jess (Melissa George) is a single mother taking a boat trip with several friends. Onboard the yacht, the good times are cut short by a sudden storm, which capsizes the boat and leaves Jess and her surviving friends helpless. They think recuse has arrived when a passing ocean liner appears, but stepping onboard, they find it deserted, and that’s when the nightmare truly begins. “Triangle” is chilling and thrilling, and hides a shocking twist.

“Ghost in the Shell” falls under the “gateway anime” category, and it’s also the shortest movie on this list, running just 82 minutes. This highly influential sci-fi movie has inspired everything from “The Matrix” to video games like Cyberpunk 2077. It was adapted into a live-action blockbuster in 2017, with Scarlett Johansson, but “Ghost in the Shell” is most certainly a case of the original being the vastly superior watch.
Set in 2029 (which in 1995 was seen as the far future), technology has advanced to the point where the human body can be augmented with cybernetic enhancements. In this world, cyborg Motoko Kusanagi (Mimi Woods) is on the hunt for “The Puppet Master,” a mysterious figure who hacks into the mind of human-cyborg hybrids. But what starts as a simple cat-and-mouse game becomes more complicated when Kusanagi begins to question her own humanity, and some dark secrets come to light.
