Aaron Sorkin wrote a monologue in The American President that sums up my feelings on the manner pretty well:
*”The symbol of your country cannot just be a flag. The symbol also has to be one of its citizens exercising her right to burn that flag in protest.”*
Unless you live in a dictatorship, your government should hold up to robust criticism. That’s the whole point of having an official opposition in parliament.

Never in the history of the United States have we ever had a president who regularly insults and belittles common citizens. Call or bullying. Call it petty. I call his conduct trashy.
Standing up to a bully is absolutely patriotic.
