This reminds me of how she made a point about being against AI, then promoted this ai fruit show on her account and responded that she is “just a girl” and made a long speech about how she is actually pro chat gpt because you can’t live without them and “they will have to be better for the environment eventually.”

In any case, her point here is all over the place and whatever she wants to say about her own career, she could’ve done it without the namedropping another artist for attention and headlines. You can just talk about yourself, this is tacky.

Has anyone noticed she’s very chronically online? I wouldn’t be surprised if she read that thread on this sub and it was posted like an hour ago

I don’t care…. But also I care and buy my music.

Just stop mentioning Taylor Swift in interviews. I swear everytime she’s mentioned by a celebrity it’s followed by an apology or “clarification” a few hours later.

yawn ! this is what they all do. say something shady about taylor for attention, “clarify” it later (& contradict yourself at that) for sympathy because the meanie ole swifties just took it wrong, rinse & repeat.

just don’t mention taylor in your interviews. at worst you’re being shady & at best you’re attention grabbing..so you’re just attention seeking.

Idk why anyone even took offense to the comment and I say that as a fan of Swift. The weirder take is acting like charts don’t matter. See Halsey and her latest album debuting at #2 but her label said “not good enough”.

if i was famous i would never say her name. her fans are insane and its not worth being bullied to ever mention her or be around her. not everyone can escape her like Calvin Harris or Tom Hiddleston did

  8. I think celebrities need to remember that they really can’t mention Taylor Swift in any sort of way other than positive. We just saw this happened with a male singer I truly cannot name. Maybe Jack White? But mentioning her in a way that doesn’t come off positive erupts mania on all sides. I didn’t think Zara’s quote was bad, but the media and fans take it too far each time.

ETA: It was Jack White! ([Source](https://www.reddit.com/r/popculturechat/comments/1rpi7ma/jack_white_responds_to_the_controversy/))

  9. This one of those thing that’s just like you had to know when you said that that you would have to clarify so why did you say that at all?

y’know, it just gets so annoying how people have to say something about taylor and swifties like bruh cmon 😭😭😭

why are we dragged into everything and just expected to accept being the butt of a joke and move on?

When it comes to Taylor or BTS just pretend they don’t exist and don’t say anything about them. Because I don’t care if you mention them in the most innocuous way, their fans and haters are there waiting to pounce. The other thing, like hell she doesn’t care about the charts. Most artists care about the charts. Unless you are steady in your career or an indy artist and are set/satisfied with where you are, you care because the charts can determine your success and ability to tour bigger places and bring in more money.

Dear god. Taylor Swift is fucking Voldemort. Say her name and the world stops. Of course Zara cared about charting, especially on her big come up, but also, to her point, you don’t need to be on charts to be a good artist. Let this girl live.

I don’t get why people care.

  13. Ay she seems messy. Just stop mentioning other working artists who are trying to do the same thing you are doing…

  14. crystalzelda on

“No one cares about the charts except crazy swifties!”

    “Um, I care actually!!!”

I mean we know you do, so why did you tell the Guardian in the first place you didn’t? That’s weird. It’s weird behavior. It feels like talking out of both sides of your mouth, and again there’s no need to bring Taylor up. Can’t you just say “obviously it’s very exciting and gratifying when my songs do well on the charts, but it’s not my top priority and I’m just more focused on making music my fans love, that’s true to me and have a cultural impact. Charting is amazing but it’s not everything!” without sounding fake or shady.

Artists need to be like Olivia Rodrigo and stop talking about her completely. Just stop associating yourself around her. They gotta mind their business. People who love her and people who equally hate her have no chill when it comes to her. People hate those who speak positively about her and then also hate those who speak negatively. I don’t see the point in bringing Taylor into every conversation.

  16. I like that in her clarification she basically says the exact opposite?

“No one cares about the charts.”

“Correction… I REALLY care about the charts and would absolutely LOVE to hit #1”

Yet… I don’t judge her… It sounds conflicting, but isn’t really. As an artist, you can both not care about some arbitrary rankings out there, but also still be pretty excited if you get a ton of money and success getting in to them.

  17. the overexposure is getting a bit tiresome because it’s usually her being a spokesperson or apologising about something dumb. it’s gradually getting less about her new music (which is mediocre outside of midnight sun and stateside remix). i’ll tune in for her next album though, hopefully it’s a better body of work because she’s got the raw talent.

i get the whole “i’m just a girl who’s chronically online” for the sake of being relatable but as a celeb, it gets to a point. she seems to contradict herself sometimes too?

if you’re gonna make y2k your whole personality, maybe channel in some of that “mystique” celebs had back then, back when they felt like celebs and we didn’t know their every single thought.
