As someone who grew up with the show and books, I'm so excited for July 9! Nothing can outdo the original, but I think this one will follow the books more. Alice Halsey, the actress for Laura Ingalls, is fabulous just from her work on Days of Our Lives alone, so I can't wait to see how she brings the character to life.

I don’t remember Mary’s highlights. She sewed 6 whole dresses by candlelight to afford those.

  2. Omg I adore the original show, I’ll be watching this for sure. I do hope it’s not as corny though lol

I don’t think this will follow the books since they cast an Indigenous girl to be Laura’s friend. I really am not a fan of that decision because I feel like it’s a spit in the face to the actual Indigenous people of that time to create an alternate reality where they become friends with a family that was pretty racist to them.

  4. I will binge watch this, and I am bracing myself for disappointment.

I don’t think this is one of those things that needed to be remade.

La traducción de reddit se voló la barda, tradujo el nombre tal cual se le conoce en mi país, en lugar de traducir literalmente el título que OP usó

This show scared the shit out of me as a child; particularly the very dark episodes, like the one with Silvia, the blind school fire, and Albert’s addiction🄓. Are they promoting it as a wholesome family show?

A suggestion for Little House fans. Read ā€œCarolineā€ by Sarah Miller. It’s the retelling of the first book from Ma’s perspective. Loved it!

I feel like they got kids who look way too similar to the sisters in the original. I had to double check and make sure this wasn’t actually Melissa Gilbert and the other girl photoshopped and deaged

Mmm, this seems like a bad idea.

I grew up reading and loving the books. I even had a subscription to a Little House book club kit that sent out craft projects every month. But they are, fundamentally, propaganda. They were written to glamourize the American “frontier spirit” and the displacement and genocide of the Native Americans. Even a revisionist retelling (which this doesn’t seem to be, given the tone of the trailer) feels gross – it’s not just a fantasy story with made-up characters, these were real people who participated in that genocide. You could make an interesting adaptation that presented the racism of the books – Ma’s refrain of “the only good Indian is a dead Indian,” Laura demanding her father give her an Osage baby as a gift, the minstrel show – as baldly as possible and just let the audience sit with that. But this approach just does a disservice to everyone.
