What does Buckingham Palace make of such high-profile royal gallivanting? There will be the odd chuckle and eye roll, no doubt, but you can bet they are watching closely nonetheless.
Could the Duke and Duchess have been an asset to the Royal family? Undoubtedly, yes, as this tour so far seems to indicate. A shame, then, that they squandered so much goodwill by trashing them so destructively.

The sigh I sighed when I read this. I’ve said this before on this sub reddit. There’s nobody in this drama that isnt doing what exactly they set out to do. William and Kate are right where they want to be and Meghan is very happy selling her jam and clothes. The only person that has publicly advocated for the HIHO model post QEII’s death is Harry. Saying they could have been an “asset” to the monarchy when the monarchy itself is carrying on without a second thought is just lazy analysis of the situation. Especially when their mode of royalling is something that even William and Kate would be skewered for. Doing paid meet and greets with the public while on a royal tour is ghoulish even by W&K standards.
I don’t think Harry and Meghan staying as a working members would have worked. Meghan is too much of a go-getter/hustler, to have stayed put as a working royal. She has ideas some good or bad or average.
Harry was the happiest when he was in the army/military. A career in the military would suit him better. I don’t think he liked the life as a working member of the royal family.
The future king and queen should take note. This is how you do a tour without looking like stiff awkward a colonizers. But I doubt will and Kate are going to ever do a tour given their “quality over quantity” approach…which really just mean doing the bare minimum.

I think photos like this are one of the reasons they wanted to leave. We see plenty of photos of William and his toothy, pained smile/grimace, Charles’ red puffy hands waving, Sophie captured mid-speech, etc. That’s just part of what happens when you’re out in public, harsh natural lighting, captured mid-blink or speaking, etc. Since almost all of Harry and Meghan’s media is put out by them, you rarely see anything other than carefully curated, airbrushed bliss that only took 8 takes to create. I genuinely feel like a big part of wanting complete control over their image/brand was what ultimately led them to leave.
But, in the end, unless they never leave their home, you end up with shots like this.
I could never, ever live a life like these people do, all of them. The palace puts out great staged photos or videos, Meghan puts out her reels shot in soft, early evening light, and then you get this.
