I can’t tell if this is sound advice or just a really smug attitude? I know a lot of stars leave shows thinking they can get better opportunities elsewhere only to wipe out of Hollywood, but I feel like there could’ve been a more endearing way to say this.

I mean if you’re a young actor would you rather have George Clooney’s career or Noah Wyle’s. I would personally prefer to not be hung up on one job I did in my twenties forever

First Tracy Ifeachor, now Supriya Ganesh.

After S1 aired, there was so much more respect and goodwill for the show and trust in the showrunners and Wyle that many fans immediately believed rumors that Ifeachor was leaving the show because of claims that she was anti-abortion (?), implying that she was being let go because she was an interruption to the happy inclusive work environment. People stopped asking why she seemed to disappear in certain episodes in s1 when her character reasonably might have been present, and instead celebrated her departure.

Fastforward: Supriya is also leaving the show. The week that her departure is announced, Wyle gives an interview implictly warning the rest of the cast that it’s not going to get better on-set. This is as good as it’s going to get anywhere!, he essentially says.

Can we now understand that this show as a workplace is probably *not* the leftist, inclusive bastion that Wyle frames it as, and that if actresses of color with prominent, well-liked storylines are leaving under dubious circumstances every season so far, there is very likely a serious issue here?

It sounds like someone might have too much ego or too much power here (or both)!

the absolute audacity of saying “you won’t find better writing than this” when you’re one of the writers/one of the people making the most important decisions about the show

My granny would say, “he just opened his mouth and let his belly rumble”. Wise woman that she was.

  6. Yikes.

I’m assuming most on the show are paid fixed rates for their efforts and do not have the residuals from a show like ER to fall back on re: not viewing the show as “a springboard.”

But I’m not surprised an old white male thinks about his own background and situation only.

  7. This guy got a god complex after all the awards he won last season.

honestly the 2nd season was not nearly as good as the first. all that praise went to his head and during writing of the episodes it became the Robby feel bad for me show rather than about character arcs for the cast.

I understand his point, but I can’t get over how self-important it sounds on a surface level.

“If you’re looking for better writing, there isn’t.” There could eventually be ‘better’ scripts that appeal to cast members more than their scripts on this show did.

  9. Can he stop doing problematic shit bc I loved him 😭 Dr. Carter was my absolute favorite on ER and I was so excited for The Pitt because Noah Wyle was starring and he’s just absolutely ruining it 😭😭

  10. Am I misinterpreting, “…because we won’t let you out to do them, you’re going to come to work and we’re going to ask you to work background all day” or is he saying: even if you get opportunities, we will not let you take them, and then we’ll also punish you by reducing your screen time?

Even if that’s a misinterpretation, this whole statement is super manipulative and anyone that is comfortable using manipulative language isn’t someone you should trust will have your best interests in mind.

Anyone that thinks this is good advice in the creative field needs to have more confidence in their abilities and recognize that there will always be people that try to limit your opportunities to benefit themselves; this is someone trying to tell you that the thing that THEY’VE created and THEY benefit most from will never be as good as whatever future opportunities you’re able to access based on the work YOU’VE put in and what YOUR desires are.

  11. oh wow he really said all that and then recounted it like it was a motivational speech

    that sure is something

  12. Oh this is some of the worst shit I’ve ever heard from a boss. I’d be running for the hills.

  13. He’s basically saying give up on your dreams and don’t take a risk in your career.
Which is pretty selfish advice coming from the front man of the show… sounds like he just wants everyone to stay in his shadow

  14. Broad-Radish-7895 on

Didn’t this man drop to guest star in Leverage: Redemption so he can do the Pitt? Which is totally valid but now he’s telling younger actors to just suck it up lol?

  15. BookishHobbit on

Jeez. I can’t believe I had a crush on him for so long only to find out he’s an egotistical Zionist

  16. Commercial-Cut-111 on

Funny how no one from ER or The Pitt showed up for him at his walk of stars ceremony.

  17. Anybody else who watches football think Noah Wyle is the Aaron Rodger’s of acting? Undeniably talented, but a complete weirdo.

  18. NictheePirate on

He thought he could springboard and leave ER, but couldn’t so now he’s the absolute worst.

If you are saying “let this wave carry you” then write for the people that you have. Duh. I come from watching soap operas. Anytime a head writer said there was no more storyline for them, I always knew it was bull.

  19. Impossible_Disk8374 on

Look, I love The Pitt and yes the writing is great. But Andor was a much better show with much better writing and didn’t win Emmy’s/GG’s or weren’t even nominated.

  20. dropcherries_ on

There is better writing than The Pitt on tv right now, he needs to watch more tv shows.

  21. BastiTheCruel on

Thank goodness he followed his own advice and didnt end up as obscure as his forgotten ER co-star, George Clooney
