I work in film and I’ve gotten to meet a lot of cool celebs over the years, and the interaction that will always be my favorite and that meant the most to me was meeting LeVar Burton. I was his driver to and from an event and I found myself just telling him all about my life and love of books, unprompted, and he was very sweet about it. (I’ve heard since this happens to him a lot). At the end of the night when I dropped him at his hotel, he said “ewokytalkie, I’m proud of you, you’re doing a good job” then he gave me a kiss on the forehead and stepped out of the car and said “but you don’t have to take my word for it” and closed the car door. I immediately started sobbing.

Well, it worked. I got emotional. This song, LaVar Burton, and all the cool stories he introduced are burned into my memory. For kids like me who had less than ideal lives elsewhere, shows like Reading Rainbow were pure comfort and I will forever be grateful for that.
