Well, he didn’t find her very aerodynamic when she made ‘The Flying Nun’

  2. Tommy Lee Jones hated Jim Carrey. Serious actors probably hate the improvising of comedian’s.

Sally should have hosted SNL and then not break in the most outlandish of sketches possible

  4. Pierce Brosnan made her life with a fart noise from his arm so… I guess that’s what her sense of humour is at lol

She’s a professional and he’s a goofball. I get it. Not everyone is into clowning on the set.

Some of his stuff is funny. Not all of it. Being manic and going fast and loud is a thing but it’s not everything

  7. I mean…it worked! Her character is supposed to be thoroughly sick of his shit, and they both play that very well.

i know sally is wonderful actor, but she shit on taking the aunt may role, and now robin williams isn’t funny? annoying at times i would get but not funny?

Weird.  I just saw an interview that said Robin introduced her to Legend of Zelda, and she still plays the Zelda games to this day.

As a middle-aged mom, Miranda’s character deserved so much better and I didn’t enjoy watching another mom drowning.

Ok, but this has to be taken in the context of the fact that Sally’s father died during the filming of Mrs. Doubtfire. It only came to light when Robin sensed something was off and asked her if she was ok. She burst into tears and told him, at which point Robin told the director and the whole production that they were wrapped for the day, especially Sally, so deal with it. And then he walked off with her.

“He was such a diamond of a soul. I adored him.”

Sally’s other feelings about Robin Williams.

  12. She also recently said that they would play Zelda games together during downtime (games she still plays today), and that when her father passed away while shooting, Robin immediately shut down production to allow her to be with family.

As someone who is typically referred to as “a lot” (but obviously nowhere near as funny as Robin), I get it.

Growing up means realizing that you have to accept that you’re not going to necessarily be everyone’s “thing” and that’s okay. No one’s wrong in these situations it’s just the way it is.

As high-brow as I try to be regarding my comedy taste……I still don’t laugh at anything as hard as fart jokes.

I’ve always loved Robin Williams too. AND Sally Field. Watching this movie now as a middle-aged mom, I totally feel her in that role.

You and me both Sally. Never enjoyed his brand of humor. Seemed like a great guy though.

  16. She laughed at the good old arm fart gag by Pierce. Maybe she just likes the tried and true stuff.

  17. Mrs. Doubtfire should have been a horror suspense drama movie. It was just given a good ending, edited and marketed to be a comedy.

  18. I understand her. He could be very funny, but from what she was telling, he was trying really hard to make HER laugh. That doesn’t come off as funny.

I met and saw Robin during the filming of a Mork & Mindy episode (the one where he actually plays himself and Mork meets him) and holy hell, he was a hyperactive loon between takes and his audience Q&A was a chore to sit thru. I can only imagine having to interact with him during a film shoot.

i dunno….as much as I like Robin Williams in 30 – 60 – 2hr segments, being around him longer than that was likely pretty exhausting if he kept that up full-time.

    I can’t blame her.

  21. CindiCindi15 on

Sorry Robin, never found you funny either. Weird, exhausting, but not funny.

Mrs Doubtfire is one of my favorite movies as a kid but even then I never got the impression it was supposed to be funny.

Clickbait title. Out of context it makes her sound humorless but if you watch the interview she says how at one point Pierce Brosnan made a fart sound with his mouth and that made her lose it and Robin was like “oh, is THAT what it takes?”. It’s funnier when you hear the whole story and she adored Robin Williams.

  24. ChiltonGains on

    >“Robin was always trying something different to make me laugh. It was so unfunny. I can’t begin to tell you,” she said. “And then Pierce — wonderful Pierce Brosnan — we were sitting at a table at the restaurant, and he made a fart noise on his arm. And I was gone. That was it.”

Fuck yeah Brosnan, you black Irish bastard.

  25. Jimmyjohnssucks on

I mean her dad died during production, but we’ll just leave that important detail out of the title 😒

  26. jamesisaPOS on

The context here is that he was doing all sorts of obnoxious bits just to make her laugh and he couldn’t do it. Then Pierce Brosnan made a fart noise and she cracked up. And Robin was bewildered. That’s all there is to the story lol.

  27. Notimetowrite76 on

I would expect that some of our best actors have similar struggles to Williams, and they recognize that someone who is always making others laugh may be using it to paper over their own overly deep well of empathy.

  28. strange-brew on

Robin Williams was a great performer but having to spend hours along side him? Honestly it sounds like it could have been exhausting.

  29. zanzibarro on

I never found him very funny myself. He was a better actor than comedian to me. Good Morning Vietnam, GWH, and Dead Poet Society all in my top 50 all time and those were all drama genre in which he stole the show in every instance.

Fun Robin Williams encounters I’ve had, both while running on the boardwalk on the beach in San Diego.

First time: I’m running up behind an older guy with two bigger dudes flanking him. They’re taking up the whole path so I give an “ope, just gonna sneek by you here”. As I pass, I look and see it’s Robin Williams. The only thing I can think to say is “oh hey!”. He goes. “Oh hey YOU! You’re making me look bad!”. I was timing myself so I didn’t slow down and just said “Sorry!”.

Second time: A week after the first, same situation. This time I realize who it is so before I get to him I yell “Ope! Coming up behind you!” He remembered me and said “come on man I thought we talked about this. You’re making me look bad!”.

Never saw him again, but those were fun little interactions. Seemed like a cool guy.

Some interviews with him where he was manic made me so uncomfortable, more like crazy not funny. Take it easy on the blow dude.

I’m so sick of clickbait titles designed to give people the wrong impression of something if they don’t actually read the article.
