Prince Harry stepped back from royal duty in 2020, leaving his official royal work behind in the UK as he jetted overseas to California. However, it’s not just Palaces, royal engagements and his HRH title that he left behind.
After moving to America, Harry and his wife Meghan Markle made a series of damning revelations about the Royal Family, both in their 2021 Oprah Winfrey interview, and in their 2022 Netflix docuseries Harry and Meghan. Harry then took this a step further in 2023 by publishing his damaging memoir Spare, further worsening the rift he already had with his brother Prince William.
This rift has since resulted in Harry losing an unofficial royal title – the role of “fun” uncle to Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
While Harry played the role of the “fun uncle” for years, this is now no longer the case, with the duke believed to have very little, if any, contact with his niece and nephews.
Instead, his role seems to have been given to Mike Tindall, who is believed to have spent plenty of time with William’s children before, along with his wife Zara Tindall – Prince William’s cousin.
Body language expert Judi James has previously told Fabulous magazine just how much Mike has helped Prince George, 12 – William’s oldest son.
She said: “George’s original ‘fun uncle’ and adult playmate did that infamous bolt to the US, leaving a huge Harry-shaped gap in the young boy’s life that Mike has more than filled.”
She added: “Mike is the fun uncle everyone needs, but in the case of Prince George, whose destiny is all about duty and responsible behaviour, Mike’s presence in his life is completely invaluable.”
While Mike and Zara, William’s cousin, are not working royals, they are believed to get on well with William and Kate.
It is also believed their three children get on well with George, Charlotte and Louis, with the children often seen chatting together at the annual Christmas Day walkabout near Sandringham.
It is not known whether Harry still talks to his niece or nephews, or sends them cards or gifts on any special occasion.
