Violet Grohl: “Obviously doors are open for me because of my last name. It’s not something I’m ever going to hide behind or say, ‘No, I worked so hard for this! You guys shouldn’t say that! That hurts my feelings.’… Come listen to my music and then you can decide for yourself if I’m worthy or not.”

Literally the perfect answer.

I think that’s honest and reasonable
It really isn’t that hard fair play to her
This is literally all we want from all of them.
Yet it’s so hard for so many to say, or even just keep quiet about not believing the opposite.
“Come listen to my music and then you can decide for yourself if I’m worthy of this career or not.”
🔥🔥
This is an excellent response.
This is how it’s done and it’s so easy. Her and Jack Quaid are handling the nepobaby connections right.
Ok period I especially love the last quote!!! She has to prove herself just like any other artist and it’s so fucking refreshing to hear someone just acknowledge that.

Oooh love when they just have a sane response to this – I’ll give her a listen!
There’s tons of people who are worthy and more worthy, that don’t get a chance because they don’t have a famous last name.
She should release the music under an anonymous pen name and let it stand on it’s own. Even doing this will give her unwarranted traffic, attention, and free advertisement that the majority of artist starting out wouldn’t have access to even if they were talented so it’s still not a level playing field.
This is the most mature, self-aware answer.
Pretty refreshing honestly. Most nepo babies either pretend the privilege doesn’t exist or get defensive about it. She’s just owning it and saying judge me on the music. Hard to hate on that.

My favorite actor is a nepo baby, i think who has for outclassed his last name(though i feel hes far to humble to say that). People need to keep this same energy. Rock on
Who?
She was raised well. And has a lovely voice
We gotta stop with this discourse. This question may as well just be “do you have a publicist who hasn’t been in a coma for the past 4 years”
Gawd she’s like a beautiful version of her father. Of course, her mother is stunning.
Heard her song on the radio last night. I was actually tempted to change the station because of her last name, but I didn’t. The song sounded good to me, and I’ll definitely check out more of her music.
Fair! Well done.
Her doors aren’t open because of her last name. There are other people in the world with the last name Grohl.
They’re open because her father worked his fucking ass off, and she’s reaped every possible benefit.
She seems to have a better perspective than most nepo babies but what they fail to understand is that it’s not about “being worthy”. It’s about having those career opportunities already guaranteed because of your parents. There is no way to prove that she would get these jobs if she weren’t a nepo baby. No one is “worthy” of the title. you can’t say “oh but I did this this and this so I deserve this career!” It’s circular logic that leads no where.
And it’s LITERALLY that easy.
Damn she looks identical to her dad😮💨
at least she knows about the power of her last name. hope she can use her platform to also showcase smaller creators as well
Excellent answer! I’m not interested but this is still the perfect response and other nepo babies should follow her lead.

That’s the only sensible answer.
And the public will respond accordingly
👏👏👏👏
I mean this is about as good as it can get from a nepo baby. I think that’s fair enough.
It is so so simple to acknowledge your privilege. Idk if she’s talented or not but I’ve noticed it tends to be the talented nepo babies who come out and say yep, I’ve had amazing opportunities many people don’t and I’m grateful but I still work hard and make things I’m proud of. Meanwhile the expressionless blandies get quite offended when you mention their famous relative.
Ok so before this post i had zero clue of her existence. I looked her up on Apple Music and i am instantly obsessed! Specifically the song “Thum” stuck out to me! Looking forward to the full album coming out in May!
Also shameless smaller artist plug – if you haven’t done so yet do yourself a favor and listen to Gray Connors! She has a new song called “The Smoke” and its heavenly!!! 🩵🧡
She’s seriously talented. I don’t care who her dad is.
Finally a good answer
Healthy respect, all the public asks is for nepo babies to not act like they’ve faced the same challenges as normal people. They still have struggles.
That’s a top tier response.
Side note: this makes me feel *so old*. My husband and I saw the Foo Fighters back in 07 or 08 and had floor seats. Violet was a toddler! She had ear protection on and was sitting on one of the equipment kits, and now she’s a whole adult!

Pardon the quality, twas a flip phone from the past times, and I wasn’t gonna take a picture of his kid
Some of the greatest actors artists and musicians of our lifetime are nepo babies.
It’s the nature of the game.
The ones who suck normally fade away and we are left with some who are truly magical.
Jeff Buckley is proof of that.
I don’t like that coming from an artistic family and choosing to follow in those footsteps has become a bad thing these days, but I do understand that because of commercialism we have had a few forced on us that have not met the grade.
Fair enough
The thing is, usually if a person doesn’t want to be seen as a Nepto baby they will go by a stage name to be given taht opportunity to prove themselves. Actors have done it before, so maybe if she is so concerned by it she should have thought about hiding her family lineage instead of using her real last name on stage?
I completely get the nepotism issues in some industries. But it honestly doesn’t really bother me for actors and music artists. It’s for a couple different reasons: 1. The advantage isn’t just name recognition – it’s usually having behind the scenes access to other artists and some help honing their craft. The other advantage is genetics – you’re just more likely to be good at acting or music if it’s inherited. Neither of these advantages are going to go away even if there’s backlash or steps to stop it. 2. Actors and music artists that are “nepo babies” are often judged more harshly once they become famous because of their parents – if they really lack talent or skill they would be very harshly judged. An example is Meryl Streep’s daughter on the Guilded Age is often attacked by the fandom. In my opinion it’s not warranted – she’s a good actress. But people are really critical of her and it’s partially because of the excellence of her mother.
this makes me want to listen to her music!! adding her to the jack quaid list of self-aware nepo babies i like
