Humans are omnivores. I’m not gonna feel bad for eating meat. And I’m not gonna argue with anyone about it 🤷🏽‍♀️

Editing to say I respect anyone’s dietary restrictions. I’m friends with vegans and vegetarians and alway accommodate them. However, we get along because they don’t try to preach shit like this to me.

I don’t love animals like I love my family or my girlfriend.

I love animals like I love animals, in that I don’t want them to die for no reason but I’m okay if they die (as humanely as possible) to be used for food.

  3. pearshaped34 on

As a meat eater it’s a valid take that I’m sure everyone is going to be really normal about.

  4. Fit_Sympathy_1350 on

People can do whatever they want. Billie eilish doesn’t get to tell people what they can and can’t do

  5. primal_slayer on

I don’t love all animals equally so I’m safe.

    I’m not eating Bambi.

I could give her the same ethical conundrum for her record label UMG, and then smirk the same way.

Celebrities always want to claim the high moral ground about a random subject. Like Ricky said, if ISIS started a streaming service, they’d call their agent.

  7. theultimatefanatic on

By the that logic, eating green is inherently wrong. You can eat fruits and vegetables produced by underpaid farmers, go for it. You can love humans and want them to be paid fairly for their labor, but you can’t do both

  8. vintageiphone on

The meat industry is horrifically cruel. It differs from country to country but I’ve seen some terrible things in the US. Even if the animals are kept on “nice” farms, they still feel extreme fear when they are taken to be slaughtered.

Cows and pigs are intelligent and have real feelings. They care for and love their babies. People are not ok with dogs being kept in cages and killed, why is it ok for other animals?

  9. Asleep_Tap6199 on

I don’t understand why some people are mad at her for saying this… it’s an opinion Billie thinking you don’t love animals because you eat meat is one person’s opinion it doesn’t mean anything do what you want

Hmm I’m a vegetarian and I wouldn’t call myself an animal lover – I don’t hate them obviously but my diet choices aren’t tied to that?

I do it because I find vegetarian food more satisfying, diverse, flavorful, and accessible to eat personally and is better for my body and health. I know people will argue that you need to eat animal protein to get enough of it in your diet (to which I disagree) but I won’t fault anyone for making that choice if it’s better for their lifestyle and health.

i was vegetarian for 5-6 years and i loved being vegetarian but i got so many fucking health and malnutrition problems to the end, felt like i was decaying, i bit the bullet and ate meat and it fixed everything

i know billie isn’t gonna hear this but it kinda sucks to know my experience and it being flippantly told off as i didn’t try hard enough

  12. whosgoingtohawaii on

God she’s so self righteous. I give her a bit of a pass because she’s young, and I wasn’t any less annoying at her age, but I also wasn’t a billionaire preaching to The Poors about my moral high-ground.

  13. Purely rhetorically speaking, that’s a terrible argument. Most people who kill humans also love humans, just not the same ones. So you can eat some animals and love others, there’s no logical impossibility here.

  14. samalamadingdongus on

Two things CAN coincide, it’s called a paradox. Closed minds tend to not see both sides of a situation.

  15. Accomplished_Arm_813 on

Thank god celebrities are around to tell me what I can and can’t do. I’m just an immoral idiot who loves bunnies and burgers.

  16. She’s right lol

And people as always are getting defensive. You can make the choices that youre making, but dont pretend that you love animals when youre okay with the systematic torture and killing of literal billions of them, just so you can eat a burger instead of a vegan burger lol.

I personally think its quite a delusional take, to think you can in fact be an animal lover and also support slaughter and the dairy industry, especially considering the environmental impact.

  17. I mean is she wrong… a lot of butthurt comments on here. She didn’t say you can’t eat meat, she says you don’t love animals if you do. And it’s true. She just pointed out a hypocrisy in people

Someone wrote I love animals cause I care if the animal dies humanely? What? Like let’s be honest. There is nothing loving about killing someone even if “you give them the nicest death ever”. No human would say “thanks for killing me kindly you really do love me.” I think a lot of people here are just getting defensive about a stance she isn’t taking.

  18. UltraMoglog64 on

Lot of folks here getting pretty sanctimonious over a passionate 24yo.

  19. lucifertangerine on

She can hate billionaires, go for it. But she can’t date them. She can’t do both!

  20. I’m a vegetarian, but I’ve also been in parts of this country where people have lived for thousands of years and could not survive without meat.

I do agree that many over consume meat and with the earth being overpopulated, it’s currently unsustainable- but a blanket statement like that is more a product of a lack of education than anything else

  21. Leather-Glass6504 on

I think she’s right but most people don’t realize that “I love animals” doesn’t actually mean anything. What most people feel towards animals isn’t love even if they articulate it that way. So you can eat meat, and feel the way you do about animals most likely, because most likely you don’t “love” animals. Other animals don’t love other animals, as a concept this seems like it would be abnormal to “love” animals

  22. Opposite-Essay-1093 on

I eat meat and I can acknowledge that her position is correct. imagine the human animal in a farm and the horror set in. I understand humans are omnivores but the way that looks today is very different to how it would look in symbiosis with nature as it was once upon a time. the way she feels how I feel myself, but I am just an eating machine with zero control over my eating habits 🫩 I can’t even stick to a diet

  23. lilkhalessi on

    I eat meat and she’s correct 🤷🏻‍♀️

The same way that if someone ate cats and dogs and said they still loved them, you would argue that they don’t.

Most people who say they love animals actually just love pets.

They do not love cows and pigs and chickens if they participate in their murder for something as unnecessary as eating their meat when we as a society have a million other food options that are easily accessible to keep us full and healthy.

And that’s okay! We’re omnivores. We are designed to love meat. Just… enough with the cognitive dissonance of “I love animals!!” when you’re paying for their torture, death, and flesh like every single day.

  24. eyeless_shai on

Unpopular take but I agree with her.
You can’t love all animals and, have them killed to eat them. That’s not love. That‘s not love, you love pets because they‘re cute. Anything else is hypocrisy, sorry.

As a meat eater I think sometimes we do get a little defensive when vegans say stuff like this. Anytime the topic of eating meat comes up there’s always so many comments justifying it (for health reasons or other) and I kind of think we just have to let it rest. Sometimes it comes across as cognitive dissonance when people have to type super long replies defending why they eat animal products.

Just be confident in your own dietary choices, and let others do the same with theirs. Of course a lot of vegans have this opinion, that’s why they’ve decided to cut animal products out of their lives. Idk why we can’t just let them say their piece and move on with our lives. Like, Billie is obviously passionate and I’m secure enough in my own choices not to be threatened by what she’s saying in the video.

  26. Macho-Fantastico on

Another celeb telling the average Joe and Jane what to do. These people can be so delusional.

  27. DefZepp3lin on

What about deer? If we don’t hunt them, they overpopulate and destroy the ecosystem system. And if we do hunt them, should we waste the meat?

  28. Groundbreaking-Duck on

She’s right. People are mad that she’s right.

I’m not vegan, but not for lack of agreeing with her. It’s something I have tried and done several times with varying amounts of success. I hate that I live in a carnist culture that makes it so easy to live unethically and turn off my conscience.

And yeah there are other things that are impossible to do ethically under capitalism, and those weigh on me too, but the sheer volume of unnecessary suffering created by animal agriculture is horrifying.

  29. CarolingianDruid on

How many times do you fly around in a private jet in a year, Billie?

  30. Broad-Picture-7305 on

I have a pedantic problem of her use of the word ‘inherently’ for this context. Humans are omnivores and eat meat and plants. The word is inherently suggests a “natural, necessary, or inseparable” element to what is being described by Billie as wrong. I posit that biology makes this inherently not wrong and can love animals concurrently.

  31. buzzfeed_sucks on

Yea I disagree. But a popstars opinion isn’t going to change my daily life. She was asked, she answered. We can move on.

  32. catsandbatspspsps on

I honestly wish more celebrities/people with real platforms would talk about how awful living conditions are for pigs/cows/chickens in the U.S.
It’s honestly horrifying. As someone who was vegan for years, I don’t think going after consumers is very helpful. But I also think people would care a lot more if they knew just how bad of a life it is for those animals. You don’t have to be vegan to demand that the animals you eat are treated with some dignity and not locked in a cage so small they can’t move for their entire lives.

  33. fcroadkill on

As a meat eater, I don’t care enough what a rich celebrity has to say about this topic. I’m going to continue to eat meat, she’s going to continue to not eat meat and the world will not end.

  34. goofus_andgallant on

I’m not a vegetarian or vegan but I think she’s right. It is cognitive dissonance to treat some animals like they are babies and some like they are objects.

  35. Everytime I see Billie lately she is always being so final about something and then it turns out she isn’t 100% dedicated to what she says.

Like yeahh I get where she is coming from. Still, she does use some make up that allows animal testing or wears brands that still do produce leather products & allow animal testing. I don’t think it’s fair to demand from anyone to be 100% perfect instead of doing their best.
